was a hearing recently which was almost a three hour hearing about bipartisan frustration with the fec right now. is that something you also see coming together the next few months maybe? >> i do. absolutely. we've considered several pieces of legislation. all of those, all but one were bipartisan. a cosponsor on on either side of the aisle. and there is a clear need for better maps. there are a lot of holes in them. they are not very accurate. the resolution in my terminology, these need to be improved. the technology is out there. we tried it in virginia. i think we can move forward with our legislation to make sure that that happens, the sec takes over this. >> is there any concern about a broader congressional slowdown of productivity? what do you get closer to the election, it gets much harder to do things. it forces motivation. how much is that going to be a factor in the next few months on some these issues? >> i think we have the government funding. beyond that, there are these two issues that we talked about. robo calls. broadband mapping. a number of issues that i think there

the fec is so locked up on this that they wouldn't investigate. and commissioner weintraub wrote some allegations are too serious to ignore, too serious to take the n.r.a. at face value, too serious to play games with. yet in this matter, my colleagues ran their usual evidence-blocking play. and the commission's attorneys placed too much faith in the few facts the n.r.a. put before us. so we can't even look into the extent of russian interference through politics through the n.r.a. it goes on. last fall the legal center filed complaints with the commission alleging the n.r.a. was avoiding the rules, with the various senate campaigns. the complaint alleged that the n.r.a. and campaigns coordinated spending through a g.o.p. media consulting firm. what had the media consulting firm done? it set up a series of shell corporations through which the campaigns paid. we've all used media consulting firms in getting to the senate. which of those media consulting firms set up shell corporations? in fact, the shell corporations, these supposedly separate comp

taylor: this is the state attorney general's case, facebook fined $5 billion from the fec.t find not go far enough? chris: there are some people that argue that. there are different questions of privacy and antitrust. the ftc and doj at the federal level have an antitrust investigation going targeting facebook and google apparently. given the effect these companies have on the economy, it is a pretty natural thing for this to happen. it does not necessarily mean anything is going to occur from this investigation the end of the day. they are going to look at some particular cases now. it is good they are getting more particular because a lot of the rhetoric has been they are too big and too powerful. that is not an antitrust argument. there is still the rule of law in america and you have to prove a case. you have to prove antitrust injury, all these different things about how competition is harmed. the rhetoric has been vague on that so far. it is getting more particular which i think is helping. taylor: talk to me about if this feels a little bit too late. facebook feels l
