something blew up at fedex.t up on. let's begin with the fedex bombing. it happened 70 miles away from where we are here. the package blew up when moving from upper conveyor belt to lower conveyor belt. it was sent from austin to austin. reportedly contained shrapnel and nails. there were reports of nails in the tripwire bomb where i'm standing. the woman who worked in the fedex facility was not hurt by shrapnel got a little little bif headache from the blast. she is expecting to okay. people are asking people to stay indoors while they investigate. right where imstanding this is where sunday's tripwire blast happened. take a look at this. this is the austin american statesman saying we are going to stop it. obviously a reference to law enforcement what they are hoping to do. law enforcement said two interesting things. they do believe the work of a serial bomber and level of sophistication of this latest or yesterday the latest bombing has grown significantly. >> he and his friend were riding their bicycle abou

fedex says one worker suffered minor injuries. the package was bound for austin and an fbi spokesperson says based on preliminary information it could be related to the other bombings in that city that have left two people dead and four injured since march 2nd. >> this is really scary stuff. let's bring in malcolm nance who spent 40 years counterterrorism officer. why is the suspect deviating from his first three bombings. >> i think what we have is someone who really knows what he's doing. i don't think this is an amateur bomber. it's someone who was given this campaign he's doing. that's what we have. this is a terrorist bombing campaign. he is trying to deliver these devices through a myriad of different ways in order to raise the stakes and the tensions in this campaign. one thing we don't know and maybe police have been withholding from us is were the original bombs, the first two bombs, were they delivered by fedex? if they were, it's very interesting because fedex requires a lot of documentation to put a package into their

that is a fedex drop-off center on brody lane.hat is where investigators believe that these two packages may have been dropped off at some point. we're still working to fill in some of these details, but again, according to the source briefed on the investigation, what investigators are looking at right now is that this suspected bomber may have dropped off these two packages at this fedex drop-off center and they ended up at two fedex sorting facilities, and that they were each bound for austin. now we're told by a source that the way this works is if a package is dropped off in austin, as it moves through its sorting facility, through the fedex facility, it would have gone down to shirts, texas to the san antonio distribution center. then if it had an austin address, it would have come back up here. certainly a very fluid investigation at this point. this is something that investigators are taking very seriously working to try to find out if there could be any more packages out there, and if they now have a location where they b

now fedex has released a statement that as far as this investigation, fedex sent two packages, a source who briefed us on the investigation said that two packages, one of them ended up at the facility in san antonio exploded overnight. fedex would not specify what facility was -- we're told by sources that have been briefed on the investigation that police were planning to detonate that explosi explosive. the source told us that the package that exploded near san antonio had nails inside the package, there was one worker who suffered minor injuries, just some ringing in her ears, but no one was seriously injured. but the concern is, could this bomber be trying different tactics here? we know in that fourth explosion that happened on sunday evening, that that one involved a trip wire, whereas the first three had been deliveries that were dropped off on people's doorsteps, we are still awaiting the latest in this investigation from austin, police, right now, there have been hundreds of federal agents the atf and the fbi, and this is a very fast moving investigation, again, we are told tha

and both our affiliates are reporting that this fedex package bomb has shrapnel in it. what does that tell you, three different kinds of devices? >> we're pretty four the first four devices were interrelated. if first one, i caution people in matters that involve the military and law enforcement investigations, early reports are often inaccurate. we have to be careful, but there does seem to be some similarities there. we've heard reports there might have been shrapnel. there's four components of a bomb. has to be a power supply which is usually a battery. has to be an initiator and those are a blasting cap. then you have explosives that are often surrounded with sclab n shrapnel and the switch. the last bomb was initiated by a trip wire. these other packages are initiated by the opening. we don't know if that's what happened in this one. what makes this one different is that this was now either delivered or shipped into a fedex facility in san antonio but addressed to austin, which on the outset looks like there might be some linkage now. >> there's more information ob

what about the bombs at the fedex facility today? who were they addressed to? on sunday, a tripwire bomb hit a completely different part of town and injured two people who are white. were they targets? does that mean race played no role or a role that's more confusing than we imagined? motives in these cases tend to be impossible to guess without evidence. though that doesn't stop people from trying. remember the unabomber was waging a one-man war against the industrial revolution. that's not something fbier profilers would have surmised or did. and what do the bombs themselves tell us? is there a pattern to their design? do they bear any resemblance to explosives used by terrorel groups abroad, to ieds used in the middle east?es and last and more important, how close are police to catching whoever is doing this? the fedex turned over an unexploded bomb to police, and police believe they know where the bombs were sent from. will that lead anywhere? we don't know. all these questions need to be answered in order to understandd the attacks, their cause, and wheth
