for a recap of what happened in wednesday's session, felicia taylor is in new york with the details. >> reporter: the u.s. stock market traded in a narrow range until the final half hour of wednesday's trading as swrfts digested a new, lower economic outlook from the federal reserve. at the close, the dow fell 80 points to 12,109. the nasdaq and the s&p each lost 0.6%. as expected, the federal reserve left its key interest rate unchanged at a target range of between 0 and 0.25%. the rate will remain at that range for a, quote, extend period. what did change was the central bank's economic outlook. in his post decision press conference, fed chairman ben bernanke elaborated on the fed's new forecast. >> we do believe that growth is going to pick up, going into 2012. but at a somewhat slower pace than we had anticipated in april. we don't have a precise read on why this slower pace of growth is persisting. >> bernanke also said the recent job market data has been weaker than expected. many traders on wall street believe that the fed's acknowledgement of a slowdown in the recovery was lo

felicia taylor has a look at some potential holes in the cloud. >> reporter: when it comes to all thenformation in the cloud, you can think of it as jewels kept in a safe deposit vault. all that information is literally kept inside. but then the question is, is how is it being protected? >> things like encryption, things like firewalls, things like penetration testing, they're all well understood security capabilities to ensure data can be, you know, kept safe and protected. >> reporter: is the cloud impenetrable? there are no guarantees? >> from a consumer standpoint i think the biggest threat really is phishing. >> reporter: phishing is when attackers send you a message. it appears that it's from somebody you already know but of course it really isn't. it's just a trick to try to get you to send information on the internet. the world of cloud computing is vast and the rules chain from one region of the globe to the next. so, location's key. >> different countries have different regulations around how data needs to be protected and how data needs to be kept private. in the u.s., thos

felicia taylor unravels it all. >> what is the strategic petroleum reserve?ts along the coastline of the gulf of mexico. in these huge underground salt caverns. the smallest of these storage bins is about 2,000 feet deep. for a little perspective, that's deep enough to lodge two eiffel towers end to end. it is the most cost effective way to store the oil for a long period of time. it's also the most environmentally secure. these salt walls are self healing. should there be a crack, the wall instantly repairs itself. the temperature difference keeps the crude constantly circulating and that maintains the oil quality for a long period of time. now, there are four of them. the bryan mound, big hill, west hatbury and buy you chalk tao. each has a different capacity. in total there are 727 million barrels stored. that represents less than 90 days of the average american consumption. it does, however, make up the largest supply of emergency crude oil. the 1973-'74 oil embargo is when many of the arab nations cut off shipments to the united states. that prompted the
