felicia taylor is joining us from new york to breakdown these numbers.ome millionaires pay less than the average working person. warren buffett himself says that his secretary pays more in taxes than he does. what do we think about someone -- how does this even work? an investor like mitt romney or warren buffett pays compared to someone else who has to get out of bed and make a living every day? >> suzanne, what we're talking about is percentage terms and the irs has six different tax rates that go from 10% to 35%. so, for example, if you make less than $35,000, you may up to 15%. but the average american worker makes about $50,000 a year and they are in the 25% tax bracket. the highest rate, 35%, is for those people who makeover $388,000. now, these very rates make for a lot of angry taxpayers. that's why occupy protesters went out and made tax policy clearly a big issue in the presidential race. in dollar terms, it's not necessarily that the mail nars pay less, it's the percentage and how it's actually calculated. >> so, felicia, if the top tier is 35

joining me is felicia with "the washington post." read a headline this morning it said a compelling powerful road map or a re-election speech that points fingers. did we have any doubt the state of the union would be launch to the president's re-election campaign? >> no doubt it would be a campaign speech. frankly everything that's happening in washington is campaign-related. the number two democrat in the house steny hoyer came forward and said as much. i think the main take away from this state of the union yesterday is the issue be of incoming quality and along the campaign trail, that's been something that's come up a lot. you've seen it on both sides of the occupy wall street and on the republican side. i think the speech last night really solidified that for the democrats to say they're going full speed ahead with this. they think this is an issue they can win on and the president has seen his approval rating go up largely in part due to that. so, i think it is something you'll see him doubling down on. he's going on a campaign

felicia taylor is joining us from the new york stock exchange. hey, felicia, what's the latest? suzanne. well, we did have a higher open this morning, but that did an about-face after we got some down beat economic reports. consumer confidence, which was a surprise, fell in january, coming in well below expectations. we also had a regional manufacturing gauge that came in weaker than forecast. earnings also cutting into gains. we saw exxonmobil posting a fourth quarter profit, but analysts wanted even more. exxon isn't producing enough natural gas and crude oil to improve analysts and its profit margins have been hurt by the slow economic recovery. exxon shares are down right now about 1 2.5%. european leaders did agree to set up a new rescue fund and a fiscal pac that's designed to keep governments from racking up unsustainable debts like greece did, but there's still no deal to settle greece's debt with its creditors and that continues to hang over the marketplace. suzanne? >> felicia, thank you. >>> top of the hour. i'm suzanne malveaux. it's primary day in florida. mitt romn

let's go to felicia taylor there in new york.trouble for a little while. >> yeah, it has. i mean, you know, you were talking about those kodak moments. but frankly, this company has been talking about bankruptcy. so it didn't really come as much of a surprise. those discussions started last year. the writing's been on the wall. they haven't posted an annual profit since 2004. it tried to sell off some patents to stay afloat but it wasn't enough. it had $7 billion in debt. it announced today it it is suing samsung electronics for inuringing on some of the patents and taken similar action against apple. that's where the problem was because they were counting on the revenue stream from those patents to stay in place. obviously, some companies have infringed or allegedly have infringed. they've streamlined the corporate structure. two weeks ago, "the wall street journal" said bankruptcy was likely. the shares plunged down some 90%. after today's filing, the stock has been delisted at the new york stock exchange. that happens when a s

talk to me today, felicia. big shake-up involving blackberry. what's the story? >> well, regions in motion is hoping to keep the dow in motion. they lose out to android, ipod, the demand for their once dominant smartphones and also delays in any one product. they're baseically passing this baton. they've been clammering for it for a long time. surprisingly, they said in a conference call this morning that no drastic change is needed at blackberry. that's not what investors wanted to hear. so even though the stock was up this morning, already rim shares are down 77%. they need to convince businesses that they still need a blackberry and that it's relevant to the consumer place. another concern about heinz is is that he is not a visionary. they would have had, obviously, a forward-looking vision to the proje project. and, you know, there's been discussion about whether or not it has been up for sale. that has sort of calmed down. initially with great news, not now, not so much. >> coming up, brand new developments here in that murder mystery involving body parts fo
