she went to see samuel felton. samuel felton was the president of the philadelphia, wilmington and baltimore railroad. and she had been hearing stories of plots to kill president lincoln, and variety of possibilities. by blowing up a railroad bridge as his train was going over it en route to washington. or setting fire to a railroad bridge as his train was coming up to it. and samuel felton was sufficiently spooked that he armed his conductors with pistols, and he hired 200 security guys who he masqueraded as maintenance men. and he sent them out to the railroad bridges and had them -- it looked like they were whitewashing the bridges. actually what they were doing they were painting the timbers with salt and alum to fireproof them. and then felton hired the detective allen pinkerton to go down to baltimore and see what was going on. and so pinkerton with eight or nine detectives travels down to baltimore, and they just sort of fan out and start infiltrating pro-secessionist hot spots. one of the detectives, timoth

portland's raymond felton dove and dished to craig smith for a layup in the third period giving the trailblazersead. it stayed tight. there was a three-pointer on the way to 24 points in the game. then a steal back and a lob for the alley-oop dunk you see right there. atlanta won it 92-89. >>> in orlando, the magic and the spurs in an overtime battle as san antonio's gary neal drilled a three-pointer for the lead. magic anderson missed a last chance three and j.j. redick shot, well, that was a little too late. the spurs won their first round game of the season, 85-383. >>> in college hoops, yukon at home against cincinnati. the bearcats led much of the game. but yukon shah baz hit a three-pointer to tie the game with less than ten seconds to play. it wasn't enough. cincinnati's kilpatrick answered with a three of his own. the bearcats won it 70-67. >>> finally, every athlete gets a bit frustrated at times. but take a look at this. during a break at the australian open, marcos baghdatis of cypress took his fury out on his racquet. after reducing that one to junk, he proceeded to smash three more

this week federal judge felton henderson told the police department the acting chief, the interim chief, needs to check off any big decisions with the court-appointed monitor. why has it taken so long? it's been nine years, a problem you inherited, a problem your predecessor inherited. why has it taken so long for what the judge feels are so basic reforms? >> let me just correct you. the judge said on anything having to do with the negotiated settlement agreement, that's on the civil rights issue. the judge doesn't want to run the police department, he doesn't care about how i'm fighting crime in general. he's saying because we're about to make some major reforms i think will be long-lasting, that before those are put in effect he wants us to check off with a monitor. if the chief and the monitor disagree then the chief has to come to us -- >> why has it taken so long? it has been nine years. obviously, the judge is very frustrated. >> i think, quite frankly, in the past, that we had chiefs that didn't take much action. and that this is -- it's very hard to make a culture change. you ca
