all eyes are on the san lorenzo river here in felton today. it gave its annual scare to the locals, but some of those who live along its banks decided to stay. the san lorenzo river gets a lot of runoff from the santa cruz mountains. add to that the atmospheric river that just hit, and the santa cruz county sheriff's office says it had no choice. we issued a mandatory evacuation order for the felton grove area. that is a very low lying area, flood prone area, but many residents declined the order. one resident told me off camera that this happens every year, and they know what to do because they're prepared, because they're used to it. they it happens every every year, every couple of years. but if you go down there, it's pretty, you know, the river is coming up quickly. so by noon the streets were seen standing water, but the san lorenzo was still within its banks, so residents stayed. that is the decision that is ultimately up to them. we can we can give orders and advice and advisories, but it is ultimately up to the families. the sheriff's
