general motors posted double digit growth as did fiat chrysler. and ford exceeded estimates thanks to a big monthor its f-series pickups with the average price paid for each truck hitting almost 7,000 nearly a record high. fact is, demand for suvs and crossovers is not slowing down. jeep had its best month ever while sales of gm's crossover utility vehicles soared 41%. the strong numbers are d in part to an economy humming along with low unemployment and high consumer confidence. those slightly richer ielentives alsod convince americans this is th this gave auto stock much-needed boost. but the one auto stock getting the most attention was tesla.ir its f quarter production numbers were mixed compared to expectations. with the company building fewer chdel 3s at the end of m than originally planned. still tesla expects production and delivero ramp up over the next three months and hit a level where the company is bringing in enough cash that it does not need to raise capital. that was welcome news for usvestors. andd shares of tesla higher. phil leb

i want to get to the overall american car scene, if you will come and it seems like fiat chrysler is out of the park, doing very well. there is movement on the upper end as well. give us a characterization of what is happening with the u.s. automotive industry. fiat chrysler with their jeep brand is perfectly positioned in this market, which seems to have an unending desire to own suvs. jeep is arguably the premier suv and fiatamerica today, chrysler owns that, and they are taking full advantage of the market shift to suv's. ford and domestics, general motors, also had pretty good numbers because of this continued shift to the truck and suv market. haidi: james, just very quickly, you know, on tesla, as that one of the companies that could be negatively affected by the trade wars and tariffs given that china is one of their major markets question mark -- markets? . elon musk has been vocal about the 25% tariffs that affects him when he sends vehicles to china. the jury is still out on what will happen here. a he can get results and reduction in that tariffs, that will be an advantage

fiat chrysler up 15.6% both 10% higher.ord beat estimates with an increase of 3.4% shares of general motor, this could have been any of the auto stocks today it got a nice pop following these strong numbers by the way, its crossover utility vehicle sales, up 41%. as you mentioned, general motors has decided this is the last monthly sales report it will be releasing here in the united states it is going to be doing a quarterly report so, in the first couple of days after each quarter, we'll get gm's numbers we wouldn't be surprised to see other automakers do the same thing. one automaker that does do a quarterly report is tesla. it releases its quarterly deliveries and production numbers, today what they did for the first quarter. this pushed the stock lower over the last couple of days. speculation these would be bad and they would have to push up any ramp-up in production. not the case as you take a look at auto sales. let's move on to tesla first quarter model 3 production numbers, really model 3 is what we want to be foc
