. >> both western addition, fillmore and japantown are amazing neighborhoods. one devs as much enrichment as we can. hayes valley is being reborn as an adjunct of the western addition with the dismantling of the central freeway after loma prieta-aened the reinvestment within hayes valley is now becoming this kind of chic area which i hope disp not lose its populism. lower haight is a wonderful help place, but it has suffered because of crime, i believe, and some of the economic downturn that we have noticed post dotcom implosion. upper haight has always been just a mecca. it deserves collective attention in making sure haight ashbury is not compromised but also an area we want to make sure is accessible for all. cole valley neighborhood, you know, to haight, is a bit of a hamlet, an enclave near the haight, in between there and ucsf and inner sunset. inner sunset, it's just a great swing area. what i mean by that is you just have such a great combination between merchants and residents, mass transit hub, a lower pac heights, certainly wants to enjoy the prosper

my family has been at this location 1101 fillmore for 23 years now. when we first opened 23 years ago, we told the community we weren't going to just be another corner store. the last thing they needed was another corner store, so we said, we're going to put in a pharmacy so the community went for that. as part of my licensing process, we got a liquor license. as part of the liquor license, we had a couple of conditions, one was the pharmacy and that we would keep the hours of 9:00 to 9:00. so you look at a liquor store 9:00 to 9:00, i mean, in my area, i'm the last to open, the first to close. that's not what our business is about. when it comes to the pharmacy, the way things have gone in the past few years, business has been declining in the pharmacy but my store sales make up for my losses in the pharmacy. we give people the best service they can have when it comes to the pharmacy. i have people who can't afford copays and we waive them or they can pay them when they can, they're on limited incomes. 90% of my customers are low-income and senior ci

[applause] >> hello i'm charl davis program direct for the mo magic which is western addition fillmore of adolescent growth in our communities. i'm a resident of the western addition and been doing work in the community before this was organized. mo magic is part of the bay view mag i believing in the public defentders office it started in the bay view in 2004. last year supervisor mirkarimi liked the work that was doing done with be magic and wanted it expanded to the western edition. as of november of last year the program was organized. it seeks to bring community based organizations. cities and residents to talk about how to best serve the community and how we can work all together. we meet every other week in the western addition to discuss that. even though it's focused on the western addition we try to work with everyone in district 5. in serving the youth we have to work with their families and how the youth during and after school hours affect the community and how we can work together to make things better for the youths and the neighborhood. >> welcome. i'm mark christianson
