megan fitzgerald is in lanham with what we're learning about daron wint. >> reporter: jim, neighbors tell us that it's wint's father who owns the home behind me. according to police, wint was staying there. it's still unclear as to how long he was living there for. but two people are inside or at least two people, and they refuse to answer questions. 34-year-old daron wint has a lengthy criminal past dating back to 2005. wint was charged with several crimes including theft and assault shortly after police announced wint as the suspect in the quadruple homicide on woodland drive, they were at his home in lanham early thursday morning collecting evidence at around 4:30 p.m. at that same house, two people were seen running inside the home, refusing to answer any questions. neighbors who live here say they can't believe a horrific murder case has hit so close to home. >> total shock. just total disbelief. >> reporter: but robin ficker is an attorney who has represented wint in several of his criminal cases. he has a different take. >> he is a gentle guy. he was a student at prince george

i am yoin soed by news4's megan fitzgerald and people in the neighborhood are frightened and they want to know what is going on. >> yes, jackie. and they are horrified watch ging this home go up in flames and a home of neighbors that they have known for years. and we want the show you this the flames coming out of this home just shortly after it began. several fire trucks, and police cars surrounded the aer yarea. we spoke with the woman who said ta she knew the family of five who lived inside for years. she was frantic as she pleaded with the authorities for in information. >> the lady of the house is went out in the first ambulance, and the second lady i saw was the cleaning lady. they were giving her cpr. i think that there are others, but did not get to see them so we are going up to the ambulance to see. >> reporter: how do you feel about what is happening? >> i am so sick about it i know the whole family, and i have known them for years. >> reporter: just devastating, and the woman tells us that it is a husband and wife and along with three children who lived inside of the home.

our megan fitzgerald has our report. >> reporter: that shooting happened about 200 yards behind us here. now, anyone familiar with the morning commute on 295 knows it's packed with drivers which is why police say it's possible even more people could have been injured. rush hour traffic in the morning on 295 is often predictable. >> it's slow. there are a lot of cars. >> reporter: but a shooting in the middle of it all is something drivers say they frankly can't believe. >> it's frightening really. >> reporter: d.c. police say a dark-colored car drove up beside this suv and opened fire, killing the driver and injuring his passenger. many of those bullets hitting the side door and blowing out windows. but chief cathy lanier believes this car was targeted. >> what we believe is that there was another car that was out in virginia before they even entered the district. >> reporter: investigators spent several hours collecting evidence. even walking the stretch of highway to make sure nothing was left behind. now, police are asking anyone who may have seen something to call 911, even those dr

talked to our megan fitzgerald about his pool scare. she'll have his story in just a few minutes. >>> the death toll continues to climb as more than a dozen are still missing after torrential rains slammed texas and the plains over the weekend. news4's chris lawrence is here with the details on this. chris? >> wendy, that the point there are 16 confirmed deaths across central texas and oklahoma. and police are still trying to track down 13 people. some of the numbers associated with this storm are staggering. the city of houston saw more than ten inches of rain in a matter of hours. and in central texas one river actually climbed more than 25 feet in an hour. fire crews performed more than 500 high water rescues throughout the night and into today. and drivers ditched at least 2500 cars as they got to high ground. among those still missing in texas, two families, one woman talked to her sister on the phone just as the storms hit. >> the roof collapsed, and we are now floating down the river. call mom and dad. i love you. and pray. the b
