meagan fitzgerald is live. >> reporter: a judge ordered the suspect here, 23-year-old joseph caputo to be transported for a psychological evaluation, and tonight we received court documents, we combed through them and learned what investigators found on him shortly after he was arrested. it was a normal day at the white house on thursday. >> i was just there taking pictures. >> until spectators snapped these pictures of the 23-year-old from connecticut hopping over the fence with the american flag and a binder in his mouth. court documents say he said, quote, i love my country, and quote, i knew i would be locked up. before he was, investigators say they found a usb flash drive in the form of a captain american shield, a pocket guide to the u.s. constitution and weight lifting gloves. we spoke with the congresswoman that represents d.c., and she said his ability to make it over the fence highlights a security risk and one she wants to question secret service agents about. >> terrorists are not 95% of the people nor was this man. >> he appeared in court on friday and showed little emoti

sure we'll learn more about him in the coming hours and our team coverage continues with meagan fitzgerald and they found what they think is the suspect's car. what are you hearing? >> reporter: you know, chris, law enforcement officials are confirming to us tonights that that ford taurus was found in the corner sparking space. behind me here is that of the white house fence jumper joseph caputo. that car had connecticut license plates with -- on it. secret service officials were out here at around 3:30 this afternoon and they were investigating that vehicle. they were taking pictures. they openeded up the doors. they went in and outside of the car. they even popped the trunk and looked throughout the trunk, as well. it was around 4:30 when that taurus was loaded on to a flatbed and towed away. to give you some context, we're about three and a half miles away from the white house. it's still unclear as to how caputo got there, but eric, that is part of what officers are investigating right now. >> meagan fitzgerald, thank you very much. >>> this is the first time somebody managed to make i

our meagan fitzgerald is live now with their message to keep everyone safe. meagan? >> reporter: jim, while investigators say it was a heating pad that caused this fire, they tell us that's not even close to being one of the most deadly devices used this time of year. now when fairfax county fire crews a riefred on the scene of the home which is located on sylvan glen lane. they saw heavy smoke coming from the family room. an elderly woman and her dog were trapped inside. the dog survived, but the woman didn't make it. fire experts say heating devices like heaters, space heaters, candles and fireplaces amount for 4,000 deaths a year and many of these fires happen between december and february. >> fireplace ashes from fireplaces not disposed of properly. folks putting them in paper bags and putting them on their deck and next thing you know the house is on fire and they should be put in canisters approximately 40 to 50 feet away from the home and heaters. electrical heaters and they should be at least three to four feet away from combustibles themselves. >> fire offic

news 4's meagan fitzgerald is live outside the county courthouse with new information on a recent murder now linked to that gang. meagan, police investigators are seeing a spike in gang recruitment? >> reporter: yeah. jim, you know, the state's attorney tells us that's because three years ago you may remember 42 members of this gang based in el salvador were arresteded for some heinous crimes and they were given lengthy prison sentences. now the concern is that recruitment is ramping up and these gang members are committing violent acts of murder like the one we saw earlier this month. >> reporter: montgomery county police say juan carlos rapalo and daniel ramos are two of three suspects connected to the murder of 22-year-old roberto cruz. investigators believe the three suspects are members of the ms-13 gang. according to court documents the suspects believe cruz was affiliated with the rival gang so they shot and killed him in a wooded area between south lake elementary school in montt good morningry county. this type of gang activity is something john mccarthy says is extremely distur

meagan fitzgerald is live at d.c. police headquarters. what are you hearing, meagan? >> reporter: chief linear asked for an extensive investigation into the case because she wanted to be transparent and wanted the public to know exactly what happened and what the report revealed was discrepancies between what the teen says and what the officers found. the officers didn't do anything wrong. >> shortly after cell phone video captured jason goolsby, a udc student and former student ambassador to the white house decided against withdrawing money at this bank in capitol hill in october. a woman thought he and his friends looked suspicious and called 911. when officers arrived, goolsby took off running because he said he feared for his life, but when officers caught up to him, linear says he refused commands to take his hand out of his backpack so officers threatened to use pepper spray before taking him down. >> understand that that's an important thing for us to be able to see your hands. we never know who we're walking up on or if someone might have a weapon and we want
