gidon: every winter, we get flash floods, and flash floods generally used to flow directly to the deadsea, but since a few sinkholes formed along the river beds, flash floods started to be swallowed into those sinkholes and dissolve the salt layer, the 20-meter-deep salt layer, and make their way eastwards towards the dead sea, but underground. at the beginning, we really didn't know where they came out, but 20, 2013, we started seeing that these waters come out in other sinkholes. so we put cameras in the places where the water was swallowed and cameras where the water came out, and we saw the time difference and really saw that, if you look at the water and it's totally calm--and a few hours after a flash flood, you can really see a vigorous spring coming out of the water, full of dust, full of clay that was carried by the water from the flash flood. eric: only the sciensts are lowed to ce here becse the whole area is considered too dangerous for the public. gidon: we are walking above an area which is really forming an underground cave system. that's what happening here now. dr. itt

need to prepare for that flash flooding. when it comes to water and hurricanes, that's the number one reason for deaths in hurricanes, it's the salt water, the storm surge that we talked about, and also freshwater that falls from the sky. so, we are going to see heavy, heavy rain falling. this is the worst-case scenario. we had a category four storm, a really strong, one almost category five storm. also, really wide, about 500 miles. and then we had those damaging winds. they all came together, moving very, very slowly. and that is why we have the high winds. we have the heavy rainfall. we are going to continue to see heavy rainfall. let's look at the strongest winds. because we saw winds gusting up to 135 miles per hour, almost hard to wrap your head around that. also 125 miles in punta gorda -- this is all the way up and down the west coast. we are seeing strong -- in -- 90 miles an hour. that was at the 11:00 advisory, we will get a new when it to clock in the morning. we also saw a lot of rainfall in a lot of spots. we c

flash flood warnings in around around the orlando area.aytona beach where they are getting tropical storm force winds. if you look at the track go into friday 75 miles per hour. 7 # makes it a hurricane. this will be a border line cat 1 hurricane. we do have hurricane watches up and down the coast line from coastal georgia all the way up towards the carolinas. just take a look at friday and saturday. still at least tropical storm force winds along the southeast coast. so that's going to be a big deal. storm surge 3 to 5 feet in these vulnerable areas. tropical storm warnings are in effect, watches that extend well inland. and then hurricane watches so i want people to be prepared for hurricane conditions for northern parts of florida, georgia, in towards the carolinas. we are not done and the ground is saturated here so flooding is going to be a big concern. it's not going to take a lot of rain to cause flooding and 2 to 3 inches in an hour. that's not out of the question. flash flood threats certainly for northeast florida but all the way

it this evening as we have been watching a few flash flood warnings and a flash flood emergency.re the higher echelons of warnings. the higher echelon means there is a how your danger to people or property. in venice florida, there's homes that were taking on water and it's not because of the storm surge, but rather it was the rain that was falling. we have seen more than a foot of rain already and since the last hour, in orange and northern osceola counties, the orlando's in orange county, we've had a flash flood warning get issued that will last for the next couple hours because we are expecting additional rains. so far, we've seen anywhere between five and 9 inches of rain around and south of orlando. there's a lot more. it's been on the northern side and heavier precipitation. the southern side, there is dry air that's been working into it. for the most part, we have seen the heavy rain on the northern tier of the storm. but the rain has been incredible. some of the totals that we have seen are now approaching 20 inches. we are closing in on 16 inches and this is where the fl

in the mountains you can get flash flooding. so even inland, in some of these mountain communities, you can see that fast flowing water and it could be incredibly dangerous. so, and the last reminder, those are the direct impacts. just a strong reminder, biggest reminder i can give here, it's dangerous after the storm too. so for communities walking, be careful getting outside. power lines are down. there's debris. so dangerous to be on the roads. don't drive your car where water covers the road. half of fatalities inland from the flooding, half of those come from driving automobiles into the water. half of them come from cars. you got to stay out of the water. the last one is generators have become readily available in these communities. i just can't urge this strong enough. be careful with the generators. when the power's out, know how to use a generator. right? don't keep them in the house. don't put a generator in the house. don't put it by an open window. don't put it in your garage. it's got to be well away from your house

there is also potential for flash flooding and river plumbing with 10 to 20 inches across central and northeast florida. if you are in an evacuation zone, particularly in southwest florida counties, your time to evacuate is coming to an end. you need to evacuate now. you are going to start feeling major impacts of this storm relatively soon. we anticipate landfall sometime tomorrow afternoon, into tomorrow evening. but of course, even if it arrives on land tomorrow evening, you are going to feel fx far before that. if you still have not made the decision, now is the time to do it. now is the time to act. you need to get to higher ground. you need to get to structures that are safe, there are structures open in all of these counties. that would be preferable than remaining in one of those very vulnerable areas with potentially catastrophic storm surge. as the storm approaches and winds start to pick up, you may see bridge closures as early as tomorrow. once winds increased to 40 to 45 miles per hour sustained, both florida department of transportation and highway patrol in coordination
