. >> kristin thorne is life in east flatbush with the latest. hi, kristin. >> reporter: hi rob and toni. gerald harris is recovering here at kings county hospital after being shot in the leg. he shot at officers 11 times during this confrontation early friday morning in bushwick, and police say harris tried to steal someone's car, and then fled. police had a good description of harris and tracked him down quickly saying he ran behind a car, opened fire on officers, around jefferson avenue, and police returned fire, and then harris ran away, running into the more officers two officer there is also allegedly shooting at them, and then they also returned fire, eventually harris was shot in the leg, and in total they said harris fired off 11 shots, and police 70 shots, and he's being charged with four counts of attempted murder of a police officer. we are live outside of kings county hospital this morning. kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >>> right now the search is on for an emt who works with the fdny, and he's now missing on long island

the fire broke out on glenwood road in flatbush before 4:45 this morning. it quickly engulfed two homes. firefighters battled the flames for an hour before finally putting them out. fire commissioner any grow said there was -- nigro said there was evidence the fire was set. >> everything was brand-new, new, they just had a baby. >> well, all of the victims were rushed to kings county hospital. they suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. officials say it's not clear yet where the fire began or exactly what sparked it. >>> there are new details about the fire in hell's kitchen in an apartment building on tuesday afternoon where one person died. fire marshals say it was started by careless smoking. dillon baker was just getting home when the fire started. he helped get the family out and tried to save his neighbor, vivian eng but says he was driven back by the flames and the thick smoke. firefighters were able to pull her out but it was too late. she died at the hospital yesterday. >>> we are learning new details about the pope francis visit to new york city

five people are hurt after flames spread from one home to another in flatbush. dray clark is live on the scene for us. >> good morning, lori. you can see firefighters busy here on glenwood road. the fire is contained but not considered under control until firefighters have made sure all of the hot spots have been extinguished. let's give you a shot from newscopter 7. the fire broke out around 4:50 this morning 1312 glenwood road. the fire jumped to a neighbors home. there were five people inside the home where the fire initially started. they were injured. their injuries are not considered life threat typing. they were able to get out of the home on their own. at the height of the fire, more than 100 firefighters were here. early on the fire was difficult to get a handle on but eventually firefighters attacked it from multiple angles and eventually get it contained. it control. neighbors say that they are concerned because there have been some concerns about an arsonist in the neighborhood. firefighters say they are aware of that and this fire is considered susp
