it started at 9:00 this morning off story road and fleming avenue. this in the east foothills of san jose. that's where nbc bay area's maryann favro joins us with the details. >> reporter: neighbors were told to stay inside for at least a half an hour while the sheriff's deputies went on a manhunt. a sheriff's deputy tried to pull over a white cadillac this morning. the driver took off, crashed the car into a tree and narrowly missed hitting a house. lee lives in the house. he's okay, but definitely shaken. >> very surprising. and very scary, too. a lot of police in front of the house. >> reporter: there were four people inside the car, one woman stayed put, but witnesses say three men took off running. backup was called in, and dozens of deputies combed the area with guns drawn. they also used search dogs to try to find the suspects. eventually, three men were taken into custody. of course, the big question tonight is what are those men accused of. it's a question we asked sheriff's deputies several times but so far they have not returned our calls.
