the great dome of the cathedral in florence, the duomo.is crowned with a golden sphere, and leonardo was among those who helped to create it. the famous bell tower, the campanile, was in existence 150 years before leonardo's birth. and the bronze doors of the adjoining baptistery were finished by lorenzo ghiberti in 1452, the year of leonardo's birth. michelangelo called these doors depicting scenes from the bible "the gates of paradise." nowadays people come flocking to the city to see these wonderful creations of the past. leonardo's father apprenticed him to andrea verrocchio, whose workshop was the most important in florence. here on via dell'acqua, "water street," leonardo's career as an artist was to begin. his master, verrocchio, was a famous craftsman-- a painter, a sculptor, a goldsmith. his workshop was not merely an artist's studio, for he and his apprentices could fashion anything that required skill of hand. at the uffizi, the great museum in florence, is verrocchio's painting the baptism of christ, more famous now for leonard

florence has -- she doesn't want to hear about florence. >> she is a very interesting study of a womanhe was five years older than harding. her father was one of the big businessmen in town. and harding really did not like him. he writes about him when he dies in 1913 that he never felt anything for him except unhappiness. she was a strong-willed woman. she was really a business partner with marion star. she helped marion star get off -- she had been married and divorced before she married warren harding. she had a son. her first husband was an alcohol. the son was also. the two of them had to take care of that son. she had a very complicated relationship with warren harding. i would say it is in a sense more of a business-type relationship in some sense that they really did -- he pros speaker -- he prospered in terms of business and political career. she was a very strong woman. richard and i talked about this. why was warren harding drawn so such strong women? his mother was a very strong woman and a very dominant person in that family, too. very complicated story. >> let's talk a li

i'm joined by florence. walk us through what we are seeing. >> there was a lot of excitement in the press today across the world, specifically in scotland. at stake and look at some front pages. a lot of papers came out before the results came out. this is the scotsman. the nation speaks. you can see all sorts of photos of people going to vote. the daily record. today is the day. today is the greatest display of democracy scotland has ever witnessed. scottish voters as a whole are winners in this referendum. you can see "the daily record," is focusing on one aspect and that is the fact that there was an incredible turnout, 1.6 million voters. scotland is set to make history with this incredible, massive turnout. there were some areas where there was a turnout as high as 80 16%. the highest ever turnout for u.k. election was 83.9% in 1950. it seems like scotland is really headed for a record here. on the other side of the border, let's take a look at what english papers are saying. >> there are a number of challenges facing those students and i was just reading about, i think, florence county in wisconsin, which has a high school of 25 students. the size of and the scale of those institutions limits their ability to do a lot of things, i'm sure they wouldlike to be able to do. ironically, a number of the problems facing rural wisconsin schools are also facing urban institutions. and they obviously are approaching them differently, they are on both ends of the spectrum, but the challenges facing them are similar, how we deal with that and what we do to help serve those folks is, i think, very important. we're attempting to do more course options, that is students taking high school credit courses, concurrently with college courses to help them get started. the university needs to improve its ability to speak to the remedial needs of both rural and urban students. we need, we badly need to make sure that students get into the educational pipeline, they that succeed and retain in that educational pipeline and that we connect them to businesses and opportunities both fo
