"eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us from florence, new jersey with more justin, good morning. >> reporter: ukee, good morning. worse indeed. just yesterday they were told to evacuate their homes by experts and engineers. they were able to leave. this morning they are hoping something can be done to save their houses. these cracks cut so close to these two florence township house that he is engineers advised them to evacuate on wednesday. >> when we walk away we could walk away for good and losing everything. >> this is our home. we have put a lot of effort into this. i put a lot of love in this house. >> reporter: what was once a delaware river view for odells and their next door neighbor now deem an imminent danger. >> when lives are at stake we don't take any chances. >> reporter: about two years ago odells notice significant erosion and it lit they had to call in township and burlington county officials. >> we reached out for some help we were basically told that it was, our issue, mother nature. >> reporter: monday came those he have i rains. odells say ground gave way, u

florence township officials say it is unsafe for odells and their next door neighbor to stay in their home. >> the hill side is not stable. that the water is continuing to come out of the face and at some point in time there could ab digsal failure. >> reporter: odells feared this day would come without local and county intervention. >> we reached out for help and we were told it was our issue mother nature. >> reporter: things changed when rain exposed a pipe gushing water down the face of embankment. county capped the pipe but so far in one offered a remedy to the ever chancing problem. >> we have put a lot of love and effort in this house. >> we are both still standing here by grace of god. we have not gone over, and finding us at bottom of the cliff. >> we still have each other and we will move forward and we will be okay. >> reporter: odells left for the evening but they are allowed, for new to go back to the house and get items if they need them. their elderly neighbor has not told us what his plans are. the as for responsibility, the county says they are still investigating. th

this is happening on east front street in florence township, burlington county.onight todd quinones talk to a family now faced with the possibility of losing their home home. >> reporter: the view from chopper three is startling. enormous chunk of land gone. tumbled down towards the delaware river leaving behind a lived edge about 10 yards away from two houses. >> the rain was just -- the water was just pouring through there and it was just a steady stream of water down to the river. >> reporter: chris and lynn o'dell have watched landslide develop overtime and watch as their backyard slowly disappeared wolf years ago the property line extended straight across. but after months of erosion this wide opened up and it is threatening two homes much this picture shows what their backyard used to look like. compare that with what it look hook now. o'dells and neighbors say the erosion really began to pick up steam over the past few months. growing bigger by the week. >> we're at the mercy of whoever and waiting. >> efforts to get help from local officials went nowhere.

they live along east front street in florence township. as you can see from the video, their property is literally seng sinking into the delaware river. they say it's been happening for two years but made worse this past year. an old county drain pipe was revealed and it's likely the cause of the erosion. >> every day there's a little bit more. it's taking its toll. believe me it's taking its toll. >> the odells say up until now with no clear cause, the county was not stepping up and taking responsibility. they hope that will change when engineers come out here and figure out the cause of the erosion, but they also worry with the engineers coming out here that they're going to inspect the property see it is so dangerous for the homeowners to stay in the home and then force them to evacuate. reporting live from florence township katy zachry, "nbc 10 news." >>> police are looking for two men and a get away car this morning following robberies in philadelphia and delaware couldn't questions where one of those men posed as a police officer. th
