department. our chief medical correspondent dr. jen ashton is here. tell us about this study. >> really interesting study. they looked at all patients presenting to emergency rooms in the state of floridae. male doctor/male patient, female doctor/female patient and they found that women were more likely to survive if they were treated by a female physician. the group that did the worst is a female patient treated by a male physician. we need a lot more research, but these are raising a lot of eyebrows. >> so what do you think? >> i think medically this is not the first study to show a difference in clinical outcome with female physicians actually outperforming male doctors. we don't know why that is. maybe they are better communicators. it's unclear. socially, though, i think this is an incredibly slippery slope. we have to be very careful before we start labeling a profession, oh, this is a female profession. imagine the flip side, if we take professional chefs and say that's a male profession or teachers, or pilots so, again, i think we need to be careful. at this point definitely not enough data to say that if you're sick in the hospital you should request the same physician as your
