especially because of florida and georgia. and there's something extra special about florida and georgia, the weight of history, too. these -- it wasn't just stacey abrams and andrew gillum were trying to jump mountains. i call them mountain jumpers. some people have smooth surfaces. they had to try to overcome mountains. in that regard, that is heavy. people poured their heart, soul, into those races. in terms of them taking back the house of representatives -- the democrats were successful. they won six more gubernatorial, you know, races trying to make up for lost ground. since 2010, you know, democrats have lost 1,100 seats including state legislatures and governors mansions. in florida, one positive thing that happened, that is the second chance amendment. 1.5 million returning citizens, ex-offenders, will be able to regain their right to vote. that has a very powerful impact on the african-american community, i did proportionately because they are disproportionately impacted by the laws. it's mixed. >> how are republicans

why are the races in florida and georgia so important that you have come in and not just made a statementput yourself in the races to support the candidates you choose? >> i feel like florida and georgia right now with andrew gillum and stacey abrams have a chance to create history and the narrative of our country. so many times we think about florida as a state that has been divicive in many ways. been divided and georgia being a southern state that always has been not inclusive. right now, we have leaders who represent our people. they represent our people. you can tell each one of them have a characteristic we want our leaders to have. florida deserves it. deserves andrew gillum and georgia deserves stacey abrams. you see the humanity and that's what we need. >> you come from chicago and you have always been true to your roots, but you have been able to also relate to all kinds of people and have fans are all races and walks of life. what are you hearing from people as you move around the country because you are one of the few big stars that talk to people. what are the concerns of peo

i did not even mention, i mentioned florida and georgia, how about the governor of ohio?astic man down in the polls and everyone is talking about this person who is so is talking about this person who is so great and i went up there and did a rally and they have now got a great governor, they are going to have a great governor in ohio for hopefully a long time. he's a fantastic person. i went up there for two reasons, because i felt his opposition was not a good person, we know a lot about him, and i felt that might was a fantastic person. not only did he win, he won easily, so not only did he win, he won easily, so add that to florida and georgia and all of the other races that we won, outside even of the senate which were the biggest of all. these we re which were the biggest of all. these were races, mike pence can tell you, these were races that were going to be unopposed, we were not going to oppose certain people running, certain senators. they said they could not be beaten, they said heidi could not be beaten, they said heidi could not be beaten, they said heidi co

he was in georgia, florida, missouri, indiana, tennessee, north dakota, texas, where republicans tookome a state wide victories. republicans will pick up what looks like a gain of three seats in the u.s. senate, that is massive, especially when you look at the historical perspective, democrats will get a net gain of around 35 seats, m control, they needed 23, for control of the house, but some results are still pending. now, let me put this in perspective. republicans actually had what is an amazing, historically speaking, election night. remember, 44 house republicans retired, that is a massive number. but here is the history, here are the headwinds, that very few people ever talk about. let's go back -- let's start with 2010. barack obama's first midterm. look at that. democrats lost in his first midterm, 63 seats in the house, six seats in the u.s. senate, that is a total of 69. a1994, clinton democrats lost a 52 seats in the house, 80 seats in senate. that is a net loss of 60. even ronald reagan, 1982, only been and often a few years, they lost 26 house seats and gained zero seats

florida, georgia, arizona, put it in perspective for it. let's start with florida. >> it really is 2000 all over again. ballot design potentially being an issue. the governor's race, more than 30,000 votes separate them. on a scale of 30,000, you need something more systemic almost if you are gillum. where gets more interesting is the senate rates. the m -- race. is this this is a 12 krk,562 votes nels trails scott by right now. and they will run them through we'll see if that number gets adjusted. but ballot design may come in right here in broward county. massive heavily democratic broward county, this is how they have voted more than 2:1 for bill nelson. this is a huge democratic vote producing county and yet when you look results from broward county, the total number of votes cast in this senate race is about 26,000 less than the total number of votes cast in the race for governor. same ballot, 26,000 fewer votes in this race. you don't see an anomaly like that in any other county in florida. so something happened. they call that an unde

seven days later, and we still don't know and don't have a definitive answer in florida or georgia. officials scramble to meet thursday's deadline for a machine recount, the senate race is down to a margin of less than 13,000 votes. but legal challenges are complicating that math. we are expecting to hear an update from senator nelson at any minute. meanwhile, president trump is implying democrats are trying to cheat the system. although, as we pointed out yesterday, there's no evidence of voter fraud down in florida. there is no investigation into possible voter fraud either. but on the gubernatorial side, it appears the race is all but decided in favor of republican ron desantis. and in georgia, a federal judge has delayed the certification of the results of the governor's race, allowing more time for ballot issues to be addressed. democrat stacey abrams is hoping to force a run-off with republican brian kemp, but it's currently unclear whethre the votes she needs for that to happen will come from. what's the latest in florida? >> reporter: katy, i want to set the scene for you wh

florida. what's happening in georgia and arizona as well. looking at the latest numbers here this morning, the margins in both florida races for senate and for governor are tightening, and the big deadline is noon today. election supervisors have to turn in results by then. in the goob inubernatorial race leading. and the senate race close whicher with republican rick scott ahead by fewer than 15,000 votes as we wait for word on whether there will be recounts. there were already fights underway in the courts. and president trump has weighed in as well ripping into the democrats and questioning the integrity of this process. in one tweet the president writes, don't worry, florida. i'm sending much better lawyers to expose the fraud. meanwhile, in georgia, democrat stacey abrams refusing to concede in her race for governor. her campaign is laying groundwork for a runoff election as nbc news continues to report this morning that the contest is too close to call. and in the race for an open senate seat in arizona, democrat kyrsten sinema also is

both georgia and florida democratic nominees are running against a dislikable nominees which people go to vote for candidates but they also voted against and you may see some of that as well in both of those races. so i think that those will have a great impact on turnout and as i mentioned earlier could have a cascading effect and we could wake up with a whole bunch of historical firsts. but it could be a really big day in terms of generating enthusiasm going forward for politics. this is an important we are hearing stories about early voting in a tremendous turnout but even in the best case scenarios is 51% turnout and if they have the potential to take those numbers down. >> i mentioned this before but in talking i wonder how much demographic change is a part of the story but we are hearing. for the nominees and the candidates to be the governor of georgia and south carolina and maryland it's something we haven't seen in some time. there was tremendous mobilization that resulted in a whole bunch of being elected, norm rice in seattle, denver, new york and so perhaps what we are seei
