i think what we will see happen is that florida, georgia, texas, in particular republican side, might exacerbate existing bias of their maps with the redraw. on the democratic side, i think states like illinois -- you can certainly squeeze out more democratic districts in illinois, and i think they will do that if there's no constraint on their behavior. new york, most critically. new york has not been gerrymandered by democrats in decades because there has been divided government in new york. i have seen sample maps that look reasonable to the naked eye but net for democrats 20 seats out of new york. pretty aggressive republican gerrymander's in some of these republican states can be significantly offset by states like new york. overall, we could be a little more tilted than we are right now, but nowhere near the conditions we saw in 2011. >> if those who have been criticizing partisan gerrymandering from the left will put their money where their mouth is in states like new york, where there was a super majority of democrats in the legislature, that could be interesting to see. there

if you look at some of the state of thes michigan and florida and georgia, there are high rates of thee numbers go up there. erin, i'll tell you, if you look across the country, about 65,000 cases, it's up a bit but it's mostly flat compared to last week. hospitalizations, as you mentioned, 2.67% up, up but not as much but the death rate is 21% down, which is good. now, that's a lagging thing, so it may be an uptick there, as well but i don't think we'll see the proportional deaths, the proportional hospitalizations to the case. when it comes to the dominant variant, whether you've been infected in the past and have antibodies because of that or you've been vaccinated, in both cases it offers good immunity against this variant so that will be helpful. >> for this one and there are other variants and we don't know what we don't know. i don't want to say putting that aside but one other crucial thing today. this is the astrazeneca vaccine. european drug regulators confirmed a link between the astrazeneca covid vaccine and rare blood clots. they confirmed the link and now the u.k. is sayi

have an agenda they are passing like make it harder for people to vote in states all over iowa, florida, georgia, arizona. these voter laws are passing everywhere. so they have an agenda. it's just one to basically own and stop the left. and one reason they're so confident in pushing this is we haven't come that far. we have a democratic trifecta, but the republicans almost won the senate, almost won the house. trump almost won the presidency. and they gained among latino voters a lot in 2020. so one reason why they are continuing on a course that is in some ways immoral and racist is because this course is not as bad electorally as i thought it would have been. >> right. and i stand corrected. i guess i was giving the minority leader just a little too much credit because even though he voted against impeachment, he did rip on the former guy. soledad, your view. what is going on with the republican party and is it done? >> no, i think it's far from done. i think perry is exactly right. i think michael steele is exactly right. you have a party that recognizes the value of donald trump. let him sa

florida. tell me about the legislation. >> um-hum. well, look, brooke, this is very similar to what we saw in your home state of georgia to what with see in texas. and i'll give you some examples of what is in this legislation in florida. it would require all votes to request a -- voters to request vote by mail ballots more frequently. it would limit hours for drop boxes, allow only immediate family members to drop off vote by mail ballots and would have a signature matching requirement. so the, again, just like we have seen in other states, this is being done by republicans who argue that this is all in the name of protecting the authenticity and the integrity of the elections and not about suppressing votes. and you certainly see in here a lot of people saying, you know, give me a break. just for example, a drop box, why won be there be more drop boxes for people especially if you can make sure itself in most of them look at 2020. there was surveillance, cameras, waying to authenticate that you know what they were putting in there were actual ballots. and you know, it's just the open question, again, brooke, why would any state make

portions of georgia and florida.eady seen some winds up to 60 miles an hour, some hail with this particular system. here's the highlighted area we're looking at for savannah down towards tampa, but there's a slight risk of isolated tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds. continuing to be with us, and there's also a lot of heavy rain. we've seen isolated flooding. that's something that could continue as we watch this move. as we get into the overnight hours, this entire system runs its way up into new england. it's just so much cooler up there that those are thunderstorms, but they're not severe thunderstorms, just bringing a bit of a rainmaker. this is where we typically see the severe weather this time of year. we've seen plenty of activity across the gulf statements. it was actually the same -- states. it was actually the same in texas and oklahoma just a couple of days ago that brought big weather. it's spring, and i do think once we get through today, we do get a little bit of a break, eric. back out to you. eric:
