forecasters say it's a sneak peek of what residents along florida's gulf coast will be seeing tomorrow. let's go to meteorologist darren peck. what are we seeing? >> it's going to be rapid intensification, likely a category 3 when it comes on shore. there are a cup couple other elements because of the layout of the land. you see where idalia is. that has a track that brings it into the big bend of florida. watch the progression. this basically happens tomorrow morning florida time. there is your category 3. this is known as the big bend of florida. a category 3 would have 125-mile an hour winds sustained and as troubling as that is, one of the bigger issues, maybe the biggest, is the storm surge. florida is very flat. this part of florida in particular is especially vulnerable. if there is one good piece of information here, it's also one of the lightly populated parts of the state. if this was going to tampa bay, this would be a different story. thankfully, tampa bay will not experience the brunt of the storm surge. it will be on the big bend as much as 12 to perhaps 14 feet. that is

obviously a direct result of that powerful category 3 storm that moved up florida's gulf coast, you know, bringing winds north of 120 miles per hour. flooding cars, streets, you name it. it came along with this hurricane as far as tarpon springs ago. i believe we have video we can show you of what this town looked like a little bit earlier today. residents tell us that they woke up this morning and some parts of their downtown had 2 feet of standing water. really a heartbreaking scene playing out for so many of the local businesses down in the downtown area that are dealing with flooded storefront at this point in time. they obviously did their best by putting sandbags and boarding up. but they tell us that the flood waters just came in too quickly and too strong to stop really any water from getting inside. in fact, we were just speaking to a group that's down here doing some restoration efforts for one of the local businesses here hoping to get back to the standards that it was once and it really is remarkable to see how quickly this storm moved in and moved out and certainly left a lo
