florida last week. they walked out of schools. they marched on the state capitol here in washington, ending up over at the white house. they're demonstrating in an effort to spark serious change in the nation's gun laws. let's bring in florida congressman ted deutch, whose district includes parkland, florida. he's a democrat. and kameron is a stoneman douglas high school junior who survived the shooting last week. cameron, can you tell us about what's going on behind you right now at your school? >> well, today we have people from coral springs high, coral glades high, coral springs charter, north broward. everybody's walking out of school, and everybody is coming to stoneman douglas to demand change together, and it's amazing. >> are you optimistic that something will actually happen? >> oh, absolutely. people keep asking me, what do you have to keep you going? why do you think this is going to change? look at everything right now. look at what's already happened. we've already made a difference. it's just a matter of when. >> you certainly have. congress

laura:in emotions are ruhigh in the nation's capital and the florida state capital today. spoke with a jon sopel in hllahassee about what the students feel the accomplished. what i was struck by ulwas here were these powe noisy, robust, determined protests, 10 main slogans, there thing organized, nothing manufactured about any of them. i think they recognize that may have touched a nerve. that they have connected with people. th they are making a difference. they are -- they are not political operatives who know what the next st up is. ey know they have to keep the momentum going. windhen maybe, there is a of change blowing through the country. you have just played a long section of donald trump's exchanges with some of the families involved. a hi risk meeting for the president to be holding in the whe house at a time like this when a motion is so high. maybe these students will achieve change. but we have been here before. hopes have risen and been dashed but you can do anything dramatic on gun control. laura:he president was just saying thatwa h't supportive of the idea

florida. we'll have a conversation in a minute about the national debate. down in the state of florida, just a week or so after this horrible event at their school, it is remarkable to watch these young americans, some of them not even old enough to vote, with poise and dignity going to their state lawmakers and saying, listen, the question is, and you can even see it among the students, they don't agree on everything. just like here in washington or anywhere else across the country. raise this issue and there's disagreement over what would stop this from happening again. florida, key swing state in an election year. are we at some critical mass moment, or will we be at this table a month from now and this will be a faded memory? >> if you go on past history, both at the state level and at the national level, it seems unlikely that you're going to get certainly some kind of large packa package. i think one thing that's interesting about the approach these students have taken is they're not letting much time pass. the newtown parent, for example, were so powerful. part of the

state. no one in florida who is been a victim of crime should feel ashamed. victims of crime or harassment deserve to have their voices heard. last year i was stunned to hear that state employees who reported instances of sexual harassment did not have their identities protected. if you are state employee who is a victim of sexual harassment, and you filed a complaint with your agency, your name or other identified information was not always confidential. i have daughters, there is not a learning there is not a public records exemption for this bothered me. so i about to change the law. with the help of all of you's chamber we passed a law to protect state employees who are victims of sexual harassment. working together we took a step forward to protect those in state government for victimize. let's be clear, more has to be done. last month i signed an order that outlines the process for training, reporting, investigating recovery for victims at all my agencies. i urge both chambers and all of the cabinet agencies to follow her lead and do the same. i want to
