state it's a bit of a different story as you look at i-95 and the florida turnpike, we are hearing reportser-to-bumper traffic there and certainly about 60 miles north of here where 75 merges with the turnpike we're hearing that things have really slowed down and that's really because of two things. number one, miami dade county is in the middle of carrying out the largest evacuation they've ever ordered the largest mandatory evacuation some 600,000 people told they have to leave their homes. many are not sheltering in the regional shelters but are choosing to hit the record. secondly and i think this is why we'll see this traffic pick up tremendously tonight into tomorrow as your meteorologists are watching this we're seeing somewhat of a western shift in the track of this storm that could affect central florida and perhaps the western part of the state, more so than it looked like yesterday. and if that's the case, i imagine a lot more people on this decide that this is the time to make a decision and they may decide to hit the road so we certainly think we'll see a lot more traffic on 7

now, when i mentioned inland, once again, if you know florida, i-75, florida turnpike, i-95. that's where everybody lives. in the interior there's not a lot of people there and even key west, i was so worried about key west because this storm looked like it was going to go just to the west of key west, the most populated island in the florida keys. and just destroy everything we know and love down around the key west area. but it moved to the east and most of these islands are not all that inhabited. there is not a lot of people down here or a lot of houses. look where it goes. right up towards marco island and around the naples area. people in that region and we have seen a lot of damage in and around naples. one again, 142 mile an hour wind in marco island, 135 mile in naples. it goes to the east of ft. myers. this was huge. again, my parents live right here. i was so worried about their house. but they only got 80 mile an hour winds on the weak side of the storm. the strongest storm, notice, there's not even a town over here. this is the area that got walloped the hardest

if you look at the pictures, on anything going north out of florida, the roads are jammed. the interstates, the turnpike, they are jammed. the phenomena that is occurring is people need gasoline, and they're running out on the road, which is all the more chaos. or they're going to the gas stations, and the gas stations are running out of gasoline. and so an urgent plea that i made yesterday that i would make to fema again, that we get gasoline into the state of florida, down into the peninsula so the evacuation, as the orders come along the coast as the hurricane gets closer and closer, that people will be able to flee. this is an unusual one. usually you will see the tracks from the national hurricane center move around. basically the track of what is expected from the hurricane center, it has stayed fairly steady for the last 36 hours. we will get our next update at 11:00 this morning, but it hits south florida somewhere in the miami area, and it will go right up the coast, and it will go on up the coast of georgia, south carolina, and into north carolina. that is a massive population along the easter
