there were protesters facing off with police on west florissant. that is where the unrest broke out last year the exact same day michael brown was shot and killed just before noon on august 9th. as i was standing there list listening to the police chief, shots rang out. 10 or 15 or maybe more.rage. those were not the only shots. a second set of shots rang out just behind us as we turned to duck about five or ten minutes after the first shot. we are now told by st. louis county police who is here assisting in ferguson, at least one person has been shot in an officer-involved shooting. but before that officer involved shooting, there were more shots that rang out. we do not have the details. details are coming out as we speak. >> that's our sara sidner on the phone for us this morning from ferguson, missouri. it's been a very long night. this comes after a day of peaceful protests in which demonstrators prayed for michael brown. another group was planning another day of civil disobedience. we don't know if there will be a change in those plans. i wan

these groups were on the west side of west florissant near the sam's market. at the same time, these plain clothed detectives are located one building to the south of where the actual shooting, the officer involved shooting, is going to take place. the individual they are tracking crosses the street. he gets all the way to the shoulder. they think at the time he probab probably gathers himself and he will go across the street. they go out into the unmarked suv, but it has interior red and blue lights illuminated. the suspect engages them with gunfire almost at the grill of the car. strike the hood. i don't know if you have seen pictures of it yet. three or four times, strikes the windshield four or five times. the detectives return fire from inside the van. they don't know if they hit him or not. the suspect ran to the east on the north side of the building. he turned back around as the detectives got out of the car. shots were fired again. he ran around behind the building to the south. that's a fenced area back there. so there was really nowhere to go at tha

they moved from there to west florissant avenue.to go to normandy high school which is where michael brown attended summer classes just days before he died. leading that charge has been his family in front of the march. michael brown, sr., met with our own reverend al sharpton last night and you can really see in his face that he is very much still grieving the loss of his son. he said that he hasn't shaved his beard in the entire year since his son was shot. the family is trying to turn this tragedy into a positive and uplifting community event. there are a number of events here around the st. louis region today, a few block parties. later on tonight there will be a concert held by most -- by artists and rappers in the area who've galvanized younger people to come together and unite as a community. and i think that's the sense and feeling we're getting on the ground here today that people are wanting to come together and heal but also ask for some accountability and moving forward and enacting changes here in ferguson. >> it's an i
