fmr. pres. clinton: i do not expect it to be resolved in the near term. unless putin has a change of heart or the u.s. and others walk away from ukraine and they cannot get enough arms and ammunition to continue. they have been amazing. they have fought and fought and fought. they have not asked americans to fight with them. but i think we -- they have a chance to win. they will if we stay with them. david: is there any face-saving way out of this? what is your view on how this might be resolved? sec. clinton: first, it is imperative that we continue -- and i would argue increase -- our support for ukraine, because the russians are back to indiscriminate bombing in cities, aiming at apartment buildings, hospitals, other civilian sites. they have committed war crimes. they are in the midst of committing genocide, particularly with respect to how they are kidnapping children and forcing ukrainians into russia. so, the bottom line for me is the only potential possible end to the hostilities is eith

fmr. sec.: i think it does send a signal that it is going to be very difficult to get additional assistance for ukraine and again, the whole question of whether the united states can be counted on to fulfill its commitments. the president says we will be in support of ukraine as long as it takes, but that requires more appropriations by congress. i think you will see in effort, a significant effort to include money for ukraine in whatever next appropriations or continuing resolution actions are taken by the congress. but, i have heard some republican senators saying there is probably only support for one more large commitment of assistance to ukraine. that they don't want to do this, even those that are supportive of ukrainedon't want to go through this legislative battle every quarter. i think the likelihood of another big package is very real and i think the likelihood of it being passed is quite strong, but the question then is what happens next yr? caitriona: critics of supporting this ukra
