i'm darya folsom. and i'm james fletcher. the breaking news story this morning. former secretary of state colin powell. >> has died at the age of 84. we're told it was due to complications from covid-19. he had been fully vaccinated, but apparently had contracted the virus. nonetheless. and this morning his family reports that he has to come to that illness again dying early this morning at the age of 84 colin powell, of course, the n% first black chairman of the joint chiefs of staff when he was appointed back in 1989 a role in which he saw the u.s. invasion of panama. later, the u.s. invasion of kuwait to oust the iraqi army in 1991 again, serving both republican and democratic administrations in his long and storied career. you may remember, though, that his reputation did take a hit back in 2000, 3 when he worked for the un security council and made the case for the u.s. war in iraq claiming that saddam hussein had weapons of mass destruction. that was one of the lowest points in his career but has worked long and hard since then. obviously in many different

francisco today, emergency crews were called to an incident at a luxury apartment building at first and folsom streets. when firefighters arrived, they found a pane of glass that fell out of a window on the 45th story. this photo was tweeted out by the fire department. it happened at the avery 450 luxury rental apartments. window washers were working at the time that the glass spell fortunately no one was hurt. will scare a john your health and bring with this afternoon. officials say police were pursuing to carjacking suspects when they ran into the health clinic, apparently trying to hide. according to east county today. they were wanted in the carjacking in oakland. police chased him along highway four and to brentwood. the clinic was evacuated during the search inside. officials for john muir health tell us two people were detained. fortunately there was no gunfire and nobody was hurt. alameda county sheriff's officials are calling it an organized and sophisticated network that resulted in one of the largest illegal marijuana growing operations in california. deputies raided a san leandro

i'm darya folsom. and i'm james fletcher.news story this hour comes to us from san jose where firefighters have been on the scene of a school that caught fire earlier this morning and kron four's camila barco has been on the scene as they investigate into what happened and has more. good morning. kayla. >> good morning, you guys. so yeah, this scene is clear. firefighters are no longer here. the fire is out. but we're currently at cornerstone academy, preparatory school. and this is where it all happened. and you can see one of those buildings that was damaged. now school is operating as usual. but if you take a look at your screen. you'll notice some of the aftermath from this morning's fire. the fire department rushed to the school around 06:00am when they got here, the main office was in flames. the fire captain says the fire started outside the building and extended to the roof and inside the office now, while firefighters were trying to put it out. they noticed a man
