what we've been doing is building a network of food safety experts that know about regional chenlts and can serve as a conduit between the fda headquarters and really these regions and some of the challenges they fashion. that's work we're doing in the produce safety front. on the import activities, we really need a unified, modernized approach to import activities that would coordinate all the different tools we have available to work on imported food safety and that includes things like the foreign supplier verification program, third party certification, the voluntary qualified importer program, and also the framework for using private standards by fda as we look at the safety of imported foods. now, one comment i want to make is that we are the center for food safety and applied nutrition. people think about safety in one bucket and nutrition in the other bucket. the reality is that these two intersect so much of the time. i'm going to make that point with a couple of examples. the first one is if you look at the produce safety rule, we're trying to build confidence in the safety of
