harrison ford crash landing on a southern california golf course. ford flying that plane. that plane itself he was pretty badly banged up. he did walk away from the crash. he's hospitalized with moderate injuries this morning. now, crews are going to move that plane to a different location so investigators can get a closer look. people near the santa monica airport could tell something was wrong seconds after the 1943 military trainer took off. they could hear engine noise. someone nearby was actually able to film it on their cell phone. cnn's kyung lah has a report from the scene. >> reporter: john christine, investigators have been here in the overnight hours, trying to figure out exactly why this vintage plane lost power. what you can see over my shoulder is, this extraordinary landing. you can see that the nose of this plane is bent into the ground. this is a small golf course you're looking at, the propeller is ground into the grass but look at the body of the plane. it really wasn't that damaged. harrison ford was seated in one of those two seats. he did have some he

harrison ford is expected to survive his injuries. one interesting thing is that because this is a vintage aircraft, they just noted there is nothing like a black box. there is no safety or investigatory equipment. that won't be part of the investigation, but they expect it to be out there overnight. harrison ford has been flying himself for a very long time. he has done a lot of interviews over the years about how much he enjoys being able to fly himself and fly in small aircraft. in 1999, i believe it was, i may not be exactly right on that date, but in the '90s he was involved in another crash that was a helicopter crash. he was in a helicopter crash along with a flight instructor and it was a scary hard landing. he was able to walk away from that crash in 1999. he was created in the hospital after this crash. we're going now to andrew blankstein who has been following the story all day long, thank you for joining us. i know there is some conflicting reports about what happened here. can you sum up what we know for sure at this poi

harrison ford was seated in the back. he was then helped by two doctors who just happened to be playing golf. he was rushed to ucla medical center where he's in fair condition. we're told he has cuts on his face and there's a possibility he may have broken a leg. his son, ben ford, tweeted "at the hospital dad is okay, battered but okay. he is every bit the man you would think he is. he is an incredibly strong man." harrison ford has been flying airplanes since the 1960s. he also flies helicopters. in fact, back in 1999 he had a crash landing in a helicopter near los angeles, but he was not badly hurt in that one either. the faa, the ntsb both on the scene. they held a briefing about an hour and 15 minutes ago but did not have much more to add than we already know. harrison ford being called a hero by many because he was able to get that plane down and not anywhere near the houses that surround the airport and the golf course. >> trace gallagher thank you so much. joining us now with more reaction is former commercial air
