the ford motor company is investing more than £200 million in its halewood plant on merseyside, to buildin europe, safeguarding 500 jobs. our business correspondent ben king has the full story. ford has been making cars in north—west england for more than a century. but in nine years' time, the company will make petrol and diesel things of the past. the new era will be electric and it starts at this plant in halewood on merseyside. electric power units, motoring transmission in one, will start rolling off the production lines in 2024. this is our first investment in electrified components in europe. and 500 people we have in halewood today, and this will really secure the future of those jobs for the foreseeable future. so, great news for the people in halewood. it is a small part of ford's plan to go electric, a £230 million investment, some of which is government money. it's also spending billions on two plants in the usa, in kentucky and tennessee. but it comes on the back of nissan investing £1 billion in its factory in sunderland. building up more than 600 jobs. the plan see the con

tesla is a great company but saw a survey of chief investment officers showed that 70% would much rather invest in general motors and fordsaying for a long time i think people are better off in small cap with great companies there. some have had troubles fairly standard practice actually when they come out with learning but there could be some very big long term winners just like tesla's become. >> why then do you have the stock rated a neutral? >> because i firmly believe that this is a good company and specific levers to pull for growth the first of those is india. i've been talking about india for almost a year now and maybe more than a year i understand tesla has actually gone down to select a facility there. they have not announced it yet there have been sort of hints and tweets from mr. musk that it is coming. india will be just as important as china and a couple hundred thousand vehicles a year the mini car mini cars are a fantastic fit for the european and india market and maybe even china. that's a vehicle that we expect not too far off. i wouldn't be surprised if it's made in germany. those two single levers ca

motors and ford are doing that. it is a matter of how the industry is shifting. you could argue that tesla is ahead of the curve. does that make the companylion business? does it make elon musk 50% more valuable than jeff bezos, the founder of amazon? these are the kind of questions that come up with the valuation of tesla in what it is at this point. lisa: is it fair to view tesla as a car company? david: it is fair because that is where the bulk of their business is. you are right to say that maybe there is something else going on. they have the solar business from when they took over solarcity a few years back. they have battery storage, which ties into those were tough -- those rooftop solar networks. they certainly have aspirations to expand into other businesses. for the most part, though, they are a car company. they are certainly not valued like a car company, though. that is where things get kind of complicated and figuring out whether tesla deserves this $1 trillion valuation. lisa: that's where i was going with this, this idea of what is in a valuation and when it is too high. there were a lot of naysayers for netflix for many

company. that's a big deal. $4.2 billion contract. but it added $114 billion to the mark cap you know, if ford or general motors announces something similara lot of work with the rental houses globally, is that going to have an impact on their market cap? no there's a massive distortion >> if that's all true, and i see your point about fleets, why didn't hertz announce a deal with ford or gm for the models to come? >> they need to get out there and take the market share that we expect them to take from tesla. there are over 500 electric vehicle models slated to be on the road by the end of 2025. tesla, right now, is having its hay day. for it's executing impeccably but the competition is real and it's coming and has incredibly good financing so, it's hard for me to be bullish on tesla here. i love what they're dig done they're a pioneer in evs and they're fantastic vehicles i think everybody should test drive a ev before they buy a vehicle, because probability is good they'll take one seriously. but valuation is too much for me >> and i get it. and it's funny but i can remember having conversations with amazon 20 plus years ago where peop
