[laughter] go ahead. >> i'm wondering if there was a pivot point that got the sports labor movement started. and if you can tell us if the american labor movement can learn anything from the pro sports labor movement? dave: i mean, yeah. first it's an understanding that unions i would argue , are part of the labor movement. which is kind of a difficult argument sometimes, because you have some athletes like michael jordan, magic johnson, who are part owners of teams. and i don't care how good your union is if you're a steel worker, you're not

tom foreman, good to see you.ry to get answers from jason miller, former spokesman to president-elect trump. jason, good morning to you. you heard numbers there. majority of americans, pl want see the tax returns made public. why aren't they? >> the president said going back to the campaign his taxes are under routine audit and he'll put taxes out and if this were a big vote determinative issue, the president wouldn't have received 306 electoral votes this past november, and i think a broader picture tom foreman hit the nail on the head. what this is really about is elizabeth warren and move on partisan democrats that are -- >> 51% of republicans want to see the returns. >> and the president has said that as soon as his routine audit is completed, he'll put that out. silly to go on any tax lawyer or tax accountant would tell you would be silly to put those out now in the midst of an audit. this is about politics and quite frankly what folks should be talking about if they're out there protesting, which it is a gre

you're also the son of a very prominent civil rights leader, james foreman.ct the dots for me, the kind of work as a public defender but, more importantly the mass incarceration problem now to the civil rights movement. how do you see it? >> well, they have this similarity. both of them, that is to say jim crow and mass incarceration, both have led to a whole part of the population being locked out of opportunity by being defined by a certain status, either your race or the fact that you have a criminal conviction. and that means you can't get a job, you can't get public housing, you can't get student loans, you can't live freely as an american citizen. and so i think really what the civil rights movement was about was finding the most acute thing that was harming black people which at the time as jim crow and responding. and i see the movement to fight mass incarceration in much the same way today. >> brown: all right, the new book is "locking up our own; crime and punishment in black america" james foreman, jr. thank you very much. >> thank you. >> sreeniva

tom foreman, thank you for the reporting.'s bring in brendan o'connor, professor at american politics at university of sydney in australia. good to have you with us, brendan. the president says he believes he's done very well with his first 100. what are your thoughts? >> well, it was going to be very difficult to govern. a new administration in the united states requires filling a lot of positions within the executive, within the state department. hardly any positions have been filled, so it wasn't a trump team. it was a bit of a one-man show with a view to the right campaigners working for him. he struggled to govern because he doesn't have the people in place, doesn't have the experience and there's conflict within the administration between reince priebus, an establishment out of the administration, and steve bannon, the more far right conservative, sort of the nationalist arm of the administration. it hasn't been great governing, even if you -- whatever you make of the policies, it just hasn't been made very smooth at al

joined by washington correspondent tom foreman. what can you tell us?lly looking at the targets within the target, because when you're going after after airfield like this, you don't want to destroy everything. you're starting with command and control, like anyplace that might be involved in the actual communications or radar operations or the tower of this airfield. there's no real indication here that they were trying to wipe out the runway here. there did seem to be some damage to what seems to be the taxiway over here. but beyond that, one of the targets was very clearly to hit these fortified bunkers out here. i can't call them bunkers. they're fortified hangars for aircraft out here. and you can pretty easily move around here and see that there are at least 15 of these spread around this facility. we counted them all earlier, and i'm not sure if i'll hit them all right now. but these bunkers are where they keep aircraft, for example, the migs, a mainstay of their air force here. if you look at the bunkers and move in a little tighter on one of the

cnn's tom foreman is over at the magic wall with a closer look at the airfield.sia says as a result of this strike it will bolster its air defense system in syria. exactly, what is that system? >> reporter: that system is a system that has militaries all over the world paying attention because it is something to behold. yeah, we have new images of the damage that went on there at this airfield. the syrians are losing something that they real very to value which is their fighter jets. they can't easily replace them. they need to keep the ones they have operational and yet the russians stood by and let this happen when they could have stopped it with this or possibly stopped it with this. this is the s-300 missile system. there's also the s-400 which is an upgrade or as it's often known the grumble. it's a highly mobile system. it was put into syria last fall, and the russians then said we can stop anything coming into this country, including cruise missiles, because this launches defensive missiles that fly at hypersonic speed. they are touted as being able to hit
