fort mchenry. after the war of 1812, the president of the united states, james madison, said, we need to establish fortifications up and down the eastern seaboard. they recruited, interestingly enough, general simon bernard, the french engineer, who helped us establish the system we use today. fort monroe is an example of the largest and best of all of those forts. in 1819, it was decided that this location, point comfort, would be the location for fort monroe. they began to construct it almost immediately and did not finish until 1834. the model that we see today is exactly what it would look like in 1834 when the first soldiers had come to populate this fortification and needed the defense of the gibraltar of the chesapeake. the frenchman, general simon bernard, was a very intelligent engineer. he created many facets to this fort which made it one of the strongest strongholds here in the united states. one of the things he did is he had several angles on the fort. so as the enemy approached the i

going to stay around and will he stay on this ticket going forward, i am told when he comes to fort mchenry, a national shrine in historic monument in baltimore that he will address the racial unrest in america and he will specifically mention wisconsin. he was in wisconsin last week and he'll be traveling to wisconsin for a speech that was pre-planned and that will be part of his remarks, but he will also talk about the national anthem and this is significant and this is here at fort mchenry. this is back when 1814 francis scott key was inspired to write the star-spangled banner. i am told the vice president will use that historical narrative to talk about the importance of the national anthem and he has spoken out against standing during the national anthem -- or kneeling during the national anthem, excuse me, when players were not standing as he says in respect. he will certainly be threading a fine line here as this important moment in the country is unfolding, but i am told he's going to spend the most of his time talking about the democratic ticket. in the words of one adviser he will
