francine: u.s.can lawmakers kevin mccarthy has been blocked for the 11th time in his bid to become speaker of the house of representatives. the group of 20 gop hardliners have yet to agree on a deal that satisfies their demands. joining us now is julie norman, professor of politics at ucl, thanks for coming in. what the heck is going on, it is difficult sitting from the outside. to see a way for, do you see a way to get through this? julie: it certainly a long road ahead, what we see is going into the 12 round of voting today, this is something we haven't seen since before the civil war. normally this process is pretty straightforward, it is resolved in the forest around -- first round maybe with some backroom deals but it moves quickly. what we heard last night is mccarthy is trying to make further concessions to this group of 20, maybe trying to get a few votes to change today. maybe not enough to get them over the threshold, but enough to build momentum and start getting others on his side. the a

good morning francine. francine: we are joined by dr.richards the ceo of fidelity international. thank you for joining us. what is the mood like here in davos? anne: people came into this week feeling may be a bit gloomy but the data points that have been coming through this year on economic sign -- site have been not as bad as people expected. some reports have saint -- said the mood is optimistic. i don't think that's right but at the margin, people are thinking we are avoiding the really bad scenarios really deep recession risks. people are probably leaving on a little bit more positive note than they came in. francine: capital allocator's are they asking the right question but were capital needs to go next? anne: when i look at the set of conversations i've had this week , and i've had conversations with at least a five or six different regulators, i think there is a disconnect between the fear of a systemic risk and the continued drive from a macro prudential point of view to get as much risk out of the system as a possible against

francine: the director general of the u.k.ess group cbi says the ruling conservative party should stop fighting industrial action, joining us now is charlie white-thomson from saxo capital markets, we had a disastrous weekend for the prime minister, he was fined for not wearing a seatbelt, the chairman had a tax bill, and there is a million other things happening in westminster. is that is why we do not have a growth plan that investors like? charlie: i'm sure those two points are distracting, it's not a headline you want to be reading about. at the heart of your question, i have been doing some thinking about this, effectively, if the u.k. is a publicly traded company and you have two and a half trillion pounds of dead, and you are publicly traded, and you have shareholders or bondholders whichever way you want to look at them, therefore you need a great strategy. it cannot just be high tax, or a managed to climb. tom: has a growth strategy been formulated by the prime minister, or the chancellor, will that come to the fore?

francine. weeks after the end of the 2022 world cup, the sports arm of qatar's sovereign wealth fund is set to be looking into buying stakes in three premier league clubs including man united and liverpool. joining us now is our business reporter and an expert on sports and a chelsea fan. david, first of all, you have some great scoops and this was largely thanks to your sources. what do we know about why premier league clubs are so much in demand? >> basically, premier league tv revenues are so much higher than anywhere else in the world. $10 billion over three years. no sign of this dropping. the premier league, now it is kind of almost conquered america. the tv rights deal there was two or three times the previous one. what the qataris -- what is fascinating about the qataris is that before the world cup, they bought a stake in a portuguese team in line with what is a developing trend in football, these big groups owning more than one club. at the time, they were talking about more smaller t

tom and francine? francine: thank you so much. biden is facing clinical pressure after white house documents were found to his private residence. the discovery spurned attorney general merrick garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate the incident. now for more on noel of this, let's bring in roos einhorn appeared bruce, first of all what did they find? what do we know so far and what could be the consequences of this? >> what we know so far is that there were documents that were found at the office at the university of pennsylvania of president biden's think tank, the biden sector which is something he set up after he left the vice presidency. those were documents that were discovered in november. the white house says these documents were immediately returned to the archives the next day. now we have heard that there's been a second find, that there were some documents found in president biden's home in delaware in the garage. so, with that announcement, we now have the news that attorney general merrick garland has app

bloomberg's francine lacqua is in davos with another special guest. francine?ood morning francine: from cold davos. i am here at west ronald o'hanley from state street. don't know whether you feel the mood here is too optimistic. we are worried about the debt ceiling. that's a huge deal. we are still worried about inflation. what is your outlook for 2023? ronald: i would agree with you that it's more optimistic than i expected, and it is true that we are seeing some moderation in inflation and a some good signs that supply chains have started to repair it themselves, but it is still early to say that it's all over. i think that if you think about the united states, you still have a very, very tight labor market in most areas. that tends to provide inflationary pressure. you have got the situation in china with covid, and we just don't know if that will result in any kind of production problems that will become inflationary. you still have a lot of fiscal stimulus that is working its way through the system, and will result in at least -- it will have good impact

francine: i think so. give an official reason of whether they pull out of the world economic forum or just at the last minute decide not to attend. but if you look at the g7 leaders, there is only the german chancellor, no one else from g7 economies coming. it is interesting to hear the point of view of the chinese. the chinese vice premier is coming tomorrow. that is the big speech. we have not been in contact with the chinese either. it will be extremely interesting to see what he has to say. then he meets janet yellen in zÜrich. interesting that the secretary of state, the finance minister can instead of coming to davos, will go to zÜrich to meet with the chinese delegation. if you look at the chinese delegation, 60 officials, no billionaires, not many big business people. the tone is very different. wall street is here, but a lot of the focus will be on the making deals behind closed doors and not a lot of them want to be on panels this year. guy: it's interesting how the tone has changed. we're lookin
