nbc bay area's monte francis is in oakland with that part of the story for us. monte? >> reporter: as you said, just a few minutes ago the school district posted that list of schools slated to close. they are all elementary schools in oakland, and they are -- lake view, lazier, marshall, maxwell park, and santa fe. it's important to remember that a final decision on this won't come until tuesday's school board meeting. now, meantime today, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony at oakland high school which was recently renovated to include an on-campus helle center. after the ceremony we talked to oakland unified spokesmen who explained that the $25 million in bond funds used to renovate the high school could not have been used to spare other schools in the district from shutting down. he also said it's not just budget constraints forcing the district to close schools, also declining enrollment. >> for instance, san jose has roughly the same number of students. they have 50-odd schools. stockton has exactly the same number of students we do, 38,000. they have 30-odd schoo
