we are a hospice that has been in said for cisco and has served more than 1000 san franciscans. the reason we are supportive of the cpmc expansion, i have heard a lot of people talk about the lack of charity care that cpmc is providing that they feel is inadequate. i have no idea how those figures are calculated but i can tell you that my team would not have provided necker had it not been for cpmc. they sold us the building that we are and in 1995 at half its appraised value because people were dying on the streets and needed somewhere to go. we were able to provide that with their support. they have been general supporters since. i was here during the earthquake. i was in the marina. i experienced the fear, the paralysis of the city during that time. we got away lucky that time. we may not be as lucky the next. the importance of having adequate medical facilities that can care for san franciscans is really important. i look at the bay bridge. it has been 23 years since the bay bridge had a collapse. it is still not rebuilt. please, let's not repeat that mistake. let's get a ho

since i am on fixed income like thousands of others of san franciscans, there is an extreme struggle, especially in the time of rising rents and disparity. my partner and i can only afford to live and an sro's, an icy definitively out of our range condominiums being built and not places for people like us. affordable housing is important to myself and the larger mission community. it keeps the community diverse and interesting and does not further homogenize and gentrify it. having low in come housing does not count as affordable low- income housing for the mission as well as the tenderloin and other neighborhoods, like bayview and hunters point, in which genuinely low-income people live. in conclusion, what i would love to see the board of supervisors do is approved bonds to subsidize generally very low to middle income housing for the mission and other neighborhoods using the existing model of places like valencia gardens as a blueprint for creating genuine housing opportunities for people who fall into income levels that are currently at or well below the current ami projection of

i am a native san franciscan, lived here all my life. mine family lived in excelsior.we now live by and vernal heights. as a kid, we would go to ucsf. now my family, my girls, my wife, we go to cpmc, general, and davis hospital did you know, hospitals are a necessity in any city, even in the country. my wife currently goes to cpmc. my dad goes to cpmc. almost all hospitals in the bay area are being rebuilt. in a perfect world, they would build a hospital and everybody would be happy with everything. this is not a perfect world. i think the mayor's office has done what it had to do to work out with cpmc so that the commitment to the city was one that the city could live with. also, you know, there is such a need for jobs. some of our members have not worked in two years. of four daughters. one is a nurse. two are in school for the medical field. a project of this nature will not only provide construction jobs, it would also provide jobs in other fields. i urge you to initiate this project so we can go forward. thank you. commissioner fong: thank you. if i have called yo

cpmc is not just a hospital for san franciscans. it's a hospital for the east bay, for the seven counties, for northern california, for san luiz ibispo. if reaches arizona, las vegas, we get patients from all these states and sometimes there have been patients from the philippines, from mexico, and other countries. i get to beat them because i get to talk to them about survival and give them hope because they see me and they see a healthy human being. they say, hey, i can be like nick. that's the rewards i get out from walking the halls at cpmc and talking to patients. i will encourage you guys to come and join me one of these days with the purpose of the c.c.o. to come and talk to the patients with me so you can see how grateful they are and thankful they are for cpmc. i know there are a lot of issues at stake. they can be resolved. we're all heading that way. we're not getting younger. we're getting old. we all need those hospitals here in this city. this is a city that is leading the way in many, many ways, in many things around

it gives me tremendous pride as a san franciscan first and foremost, as mayor of this city, that our san francisco girls chorus and our san francisco boys chorus have been picked for this historic event. it is an extraordinary privilege that we collectively are being afforded. but all of these young men and women in the back are being afforded. and to all of families and friends, i know that this is something you will never forget. as a san franciscan to see san francisco speaker nancy pelosi up there with senior senator diane feinstein front and center in this, and our boys and girls chorus -- [applause] i know not everyone of the same political persuasion. but yes, the president that we have chosen, which we chose wisely from my humble perspective.
