we are a hospice that has been in said for cisco and has served more than 1000 san franciscans. the reason we are supportive of the cpmc expansion, i have heard a lot of people talk about the lack of charity care that cpmc is providing that they feel is inadequate. i have no idea how those figures are calculated but i can tell you that my team would not have provided necker had it not been for cpmc. they sold us the building that we are and in 1995 at half its appraised value because people were dying on the streets and needed somewhere to go. we were able to provide that with their support. they have been general supporters since. i was here during the earthquake. i was in the marina. i experienced the fear, the paralysis of the city during that time. we got away lucky that time. we may not be as lucky the next. the importance of having adequate medical facilities that can care for san franciscans is really important. i look at the bay bridge. it has been 23 years since the bay bridge had a collapse. it is still not rebuilt. please, let's not repeat that mistake. let's get a ho

since i am on fixed income like thousands of others of san franciscans, there is an extreme struggle, especially in the time of rising rents and disparity. my partner and i can only afford to live and an sro's, an icy definitively out of our range condominiums being built and not places for people like us. affordable housing is important to myself and the larger mission community. it keeps the community diverse and interesting and does not further homogenize and gentrify it. having low in come housing does not count as affordable low- income housing for the mission as well as the tenderloin and other neighborhoods, like bayview and hunters point, in which genuinely low-income people live. in conclusion, what i would love to see the board of supervisors do is approved bonds to subsidize generally very low to middle income housing for the mission and other neighborhoods using the existing model of places like valencia gardens as a blueprint for creating genuine housing opportunities for people who fall into income levels that are currently at or well below the current ami projection of

i am a native san franciscan, lived here all my life. mine family lived in excelsior.we now live by and vernal heights. as a kid, we would go to ucsf. now my family, my girls, my wife, we go to cpmc, general, and davis hospital did you know, hospitals are a necessity in any city, even in the country. my wife currently goes to cpmc. my dad goes to cpmc. almost all hospitals in the bay area are being rebuilt. in a perfect world, they would build a hospital and everybody would be happy with everything. this is not a perfect world. i think the mayor's office has done what it had to do to work out with cpmc so that the commitment to the city was one that the city could live with. also, you know, there is such a need for jobs. some of our members have not worked in two years. of four daughters. one is a nurse. two are in school for the medical field. a project of this nature will not only provide construction jobs, it would also provide jobs in other fields. i urge you to initiate this project so we can go forward. thank you. commissioner fong: thank you. if i have called yo

roughly 10% of san franciscans who die of aids to do so in our facilities. i have also participated as a neighbor in the outreach that they did. i have seen the accommodations they have made in the areas of pedestrian safety. i want to urge you to vote yes on the rebuild of cpmc. thank you. >> good afternoon, commissioners. i am a 43-year member of the local 22, the carpenters union. i live here in san francisco. i own property here. full coverage appears to be here to stay regardless of what the supreme court might decide for people in san francisco. these facilities are needed. in earthquake country, earthquakes won't wait and the upgrades are needed. also, we need the work. we lost over a quarter of our members and local 22 since 2008. we need to put these people back to work. many of them come from the bayview and a third from the mission. they would be put back to work and additional apprentices trained. i ask you to please move this ahead. when these people are reemployed, under our labor agreement, they will be privately in short to the labor plans, w

the 2012 city beat poll survey of san francisco voters found that some franciscans are very optimistic about the future, but they remain concerned about homelessness, panhandling, and the economy, and public transportation. the trends are going the right direction. the good news is 58% of voters think san francisco is going in the right direction, and the highest since march, 2007, so we are moving in the right direction. only 28% are pessimistic, compared to 38% concerned last year. quality of life scores are up with 70% of voters saying the quality of life in the city is getting better or the same, but we have a quarter of folks who say quality of life has decreased. jobs and the economy continued to be ranked as the top issue for the city. about 24% of workers, second only to homelessness. the local economy and quality of life have improved, and we hope that all of you will join the chamber and the center for economic development as we work together to create jobs and create a prosperous future for the city of san francisco, and i want to end by talking about the process of how we e

general hospital, i have a vested interest in seeing diversity reflected in all the values of san franciscans citizens. it -- i had the opportunity to meet when the then commission president introduced as will be working on the very first lesbian and transgendered legislation. at that time, i was partnering with kathrin dodd, who is currently running hhs. at that time, i was the executive director on the status of women, who also co-sponsored this event. it was the first ever groundbreaking form to address the needs of lesbian and by sexual and transgendered in san francisco. the last time i was in this room was to accept the certificate acknowledgement for that work. as an employee and faculty member, i have had the opportunity to work with the outgoing commissioner katharine waters for the last decade, and i have found her voice and contributions to the commission in neurosciences and as a woman of color to impact positively the people of san francisco. as many of you know, our current national climate that is proving to be less than tolerant -- >> if you could wrap up your sentence please.

we are putting san franciscans to work. we are rebuilding san francisco and we're putting san franciscans to work. back in the depression, we had high unemployment. the response from the governor was the new deal. and finding projects to rebuild this country and put people to work. in san francisco, when we had high unemployment, we looked at what we could do with our public works projects and our construction projects to put local residents to work, to make sure that we can actually fuel our local economy by hiring local people. that's what the essence of local higher has been and what it was about. we had a big change. we had to go from good faith efforts of the past to create a mandatory requirement on local hire and change was not easy. i cannot say enough about how much community and labor worked together to make local hire happen. it was the carpenters union, it was the laborers, bright line defense. there were contractors, asian contractorsant latino contractors, contractors large and small to make this legislation h
