i came in determined to make san francisco work for the people of san francisco. i started with the benefit of a great team in place, with the city departments and the city commissions. let me talk about the tremendous legacy of our lieutenant governor and former mayor, kavin gavin newsom, and everything that he did that let me keep the ground -- hit the ground running, and so, together, we set out to achieve five goals in the first year of office, hiring a great police chief and putting san francisco back to work with new jobs and a new local hire program, balancing the budget despite this -- this the deficits, and tackling pension reform, one of the most difficult challenges every city has faced. and we got all of these done. i was born in san francisco, moved to the peninsula, raised my family there, moved back to san francisco eight years ago. my day job, in addition to civic activities, i am an angel investors. since 1994, i have invested over 600 companies. it is very interesting to see -- and most of these companies are in the bay area. there are about 200 companies that are active today. of those 200 companies, most of which in the bay area, over 52% of our portfolio in sv angel are in san francisco today. what is significant is, in 2005, 75% of our portfolio was in silicon valley, i the south of san francisco. so there is definitely undisputed the migration of tech companies to san francisco, and we want to support that. some of the company that i am an investor in that will lead the charge in san francisco, twitter, ising guy, jawbone, eventbrite, trulia, and google. approval has a large office in san francisco. we think the tech community in san francisco needs to finally get active. ed lee, the minute he stepped into office, the two significant things for the tech community, he got twitter to stay i

it is not any different in san francisco. it is incumbent upon us to bring together those that know best in how we can speak our minds and demonstrate, with the level of 42 that we can realistically do. i am not into hollow relicts. i have been told by people that it may be a good idea of for us to just clearly evict. yet, when i remember the sheriff, who is a friend of mine -- sheriff [unintelligible] , telling me about the days that he had resisted, having to follow orders several days later. painting the picture of what we were up against. the law had not reform since then. it is important that we continue to recognize the value of the sworn staff in the sheriff's department. we have a great deal to be proud of. i know that the police department is the primary responder in public safety. approximately 850 men and women who have served with distinction their sworn personnel. many i had meant in my days at the police academy. many had believed had certainly served with great honor on behalf of the city and county of san fran
