meals on cheryls in san francisco is a provider in san francisco and providing 1.3 million meals to 3,000 seniors and we're the safety net to those that need the meals. the best indicator of a policy is to see what happens in the past. we adopted the standards and emergency standards with the city in 2007. what did that do? we were serving 11 hundred people a day and now we're doubled in size. what happens when you back off of that commitment? this year because of funding we had to pull back and we were averaging 22 days and went out to the 30 day maximum. what happened? the wait list doubled so we encourage you to stay with it and invest in the policy and without you we can't maintain this commitment so we implement it city wide and fund it and stem the need. one this web that we all work on is exactly that. when one part fails we all fail so we need to invest across the board. i invite you out on the route and see the seniors that we serve and they're on the poverty agenda in the city. thank you very much. >> thank you. next speaker. >> hi. i am marianne hayward and moved from southern

longmore institute on disability at san francisco state. just to give you a brief overview, i know not a lot of you knew paul and worked with paul. he was in this room many times. and the longmore institute of san francisco state university is kind of a -- it brings together advocacy, academics, culture, and the whole point of it is to get people in conversation that might not otherwise be in conversation and to change attitudes about disability. so, through cultural initiatives, through academic programs, through basically changing people's minds. and the idea here is that you take something like culture and you get people to think about disability as a form of experience on a par with race, gender, social class, all the things we care about. if you can get people to think about disability differently and disabled people differently, then they will change their attitudes about employment, employing people with disabilities, or with service provision, all of these things. so, all of our programs with designed to do that, kind of that work.

gab members, the san francisco arts commissioners and staff and artists and san francisco beautiful and its members. thank you all for helping to craft this proposal. i want to give a little background about the reason why we came together to really address this particular issue. according to our knowledge and legislative analyst, it costs the city close to $20 million annually to abate graffiti on our buses and property and all throughout the city. and the city could use this money to use for other things. as former director and supervisor now, i see the huge cost of graffiti incur. and i hear from property owners that paint over offensive graffiti and to return the next day. i have seen people wait for the muni buses. many trying to remove graffiti, and needs solutions. i didn't want to use those who view crime as a harsher punishment. but yet to research best practices in jurisdictions all over the country, new york and chicago and san diego, and to create a nuance plan to reduce graffiti and provide better outcomes for offenders. most of our proposal is administrative, not just
