when i'm in sacramento, my colleagues ask me, hey, you represent san francisco, san francisco seems to have a lot. why are you such a park advocate. i explain to folks that in our amazing city, seven years ago when i was first elected to the legislature, i would tell folks in chinatown, you have immigrant kids kicking soccer balls on top of housing projects and in the mission, you have latino immigrant kids kicking soccer balls down alley ways and a few miles away, the bayview, african american kids from time to time kicking balls on top of formerly toxic contaminated sites. this is why we do the work we do. we need to make sure our next generation of kids have the opportunities that every child should. the opportunity to play, to thrive, to learn how to be in community with each other, to grow strong and to grow to become the next mayor of this city. i just want to thank all of you who are part of this amazing community. this village, whether from the public sector and from rec and park and with the commission, whether you work with rec and park, from the private sector helping to con

i am an immigrant to san francisco. i came when its 12 years it cost a nickel back then and muni gave me freedom. it was a freedom that as a kid from el salvador like very few in my generation had in my country, but here, muni alloweded us to just have the entire the world class city that is san francisco at our feet. if you haven't seen the newest marvel movie, go see it because muni is a prominent character. it's so much part of our identity. i want to thank all of you for your advocacy. t.w.u. and local transit workers who have put their lives and their families and health on the line for the rest of us. we need to keep supporting them and advancing this wonderful public good that is transit. in my district, we have city college, san francisco state, and u.c.s.f. as part of the zoo all of the organizations that rely on public transit to be healthy and expand. we want to make sure that san francisco comes back from this pandemic and public transit is the way. let's fund it. let's fund it adequately. let's pave the way

given san francisco's historical and consistent leadership. and how it has always demonstrated that we celebrate our diversity and our diversity is our strength and so i appreciate the opportunity to be here and over the next few weeks, i'll be in different places all over the state having similar conversations to uplift best practices to highlight and illuminate our solutions so that we can prevent and heal as we address this epidemic of hate throughout our state and throughout our nation. as california's attorney general, i see myself as being the people's attorney and it's important for me to see and value and protect every community and for so many of our communities, for too many of our communities right now we are in a full on state of crisis. a full state of emergency when it comes to hate and, you know, the statistics are alarming and they're shocking. we know that across california, hate crime events increased 31% across the board last year. anti-asian hate crimes in particular increased an alarming 107% and right here in san francisc

the state is doing well, but san francisco is doing even better. the positivity rate across the state is now 2.5%. among the lowest rate in the country. but take a look at san francisco. its positivity rate is just 1.6%. now that downward trend is sparking serious discussions about ending the city's indoor mask mandate. mayor breed says it's up to the director of public health. so what's it going to take? >> and how will it impact business franchise that mask mandate is ended? thom jensen talked to the mayor. >> reporter: san francisco has been setting the tone for much of the nation when it comes to vaccines and masking since the early days of the pandemic, and now with transmission rates in the city well below the cdc's level for recommended required masking, city officials say there may be flexibility in lifting some of the indoor mask mandates. >> we're seeing the numbers decline. and in fact, many of the indoor venues of course require that people are vaccinated. >> reporter: but there are some concerns that lifting the mandates too soon could
