in san francisco we take having seriously. i want to acknowledge all the people who came dressed about 1906 including the ladies and gentlemen of decades of fashion who dressed me and we take money having seriously. san francisco is an amazing city and the challenges they have faced and this global pandemic, something none of us could have ever anticipated and i am grateful to represent the extraordinary and resilient city. we made that to shut down the city and it was unimaginable to take the serious steps, but guess what? it paid off. san francisco was really the envy of the pandemic because our first responders, and the emergency management and police and fire departments and others and city employees stepped up as disaster service workers, but more importantly, just like in the 1906 earthquake, we came together. we came together to look out for one another and to support one another. we got tired every now and then and tired of zoom and the different meetings and ultimately what we saw is one of the lowest death rates in t

francisco. what was that? thank you. i want to first acknowledge the two amazing women that serve on the board of san francisco here in san francisco. we have with us today supervisor kathrine stefanie and supervisor myrna melbar and our fire chief and a lady who's an institution in san francisco who is a historian. ellen, please stand up and take a bow. and i think i got all the department heads, but there's also a lot of commissioners. so all the women commissioners in the house. please raise your hand. i need a little more enthusiasm from the fact that we have 55% of the commissioners that serve the city and county of san francisco are women. thank you. and today as we really think about how far we've come, we also just have to be reminded that there's so much work to do and we talked that. there was a time when the majority of the women on the board of supervisors were women. there was a time where we had to fight to get to that point and so we want to get back there and, you know, sadly, i'

the people of san francisco, the voters of san francisco approved this back in 2003, and the work began to look at how we were going to reimagine what van ness boulevard would be in order to provide efficient transit and safety and all the things that we need. when i think back to the history of van ness boulevard and what it represented after the 1906 earthquake, when i used to walk up and down these streets and catch the 49 to the 47 to galileo high school, not too long ago, it was auto row. this city was built mostly to accommodate vehicles, and over the years, we've seen a significant shift, people using various modes of transportation. but also, because we are a city who pride ourselves on making sure we are good stewards of the environment, we noticed something. 47% of greenhouse gas emissions happen in this city because of vehicles, and we need to make changes. we need to make our public transportation system more efficient. we need to make sure that we improve our infrastructure so that different modes of transportation be moved around san francisco in a safe and efficient manne

that existed in san francisco, but we also know that san francisco was a place of opportunity, and balboa that place of opportunity for jose, who was able to be an apprentice, who was able to move up in the ranks and be a part of an incredible union, local 6, the electricians, who do a lot of wonderful work for san francisco, and who have been really great in providing opportunities for city build. we know it's a part of the larger building trades family here, so it's great to see rudy gonzales here, and tom mazzola. this seat has traditionally been a labor seat, one in which the person who is a part of labor, it's usually somebody very prestigious, and the mazzolas, they don't necessarily do a change in leadership very lightly when it comes to this seat, so the fact that they dug deep, and they found someone that they could pass the torch to must mean that you are a very significant person in the labor world, and we are very proud and excited to have you join. i wanted to take this opportunity, we have so many partners and labor leaders here and members of our airport commission. i'm not

getting into san francisco. we are looking at that commute a little bit slow, but nothing out of the ordinary and westbound bay bridge is backed up as it normally is, so we'll keep an eye on that, and we'll have another look at some of those east bay community. but right now, let's get right back to the headlines with casio. and we'll move straight to san jose, where three people suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of a three month old boy are under arrest. the baby is now at home safe with family. ktvu magus live and saturday police headquarters to bring us the latest on this evolving investigation, emma money garcia we are expecting to hear from san jose police later this morning. we're also expecting the district attorney's office to determine today the charges for the three suspects involved yesterday. san jose police arrested the man seen on this surveillance video taking the baby from his home in san jose, along with a woman. who was with the baby's grandmother. they also arrested a third person.

i'm a 24 resident of san francisco. i live in san francisco with my wife. she's a native from san francisco, i'm a transplant to the u.s. i'm grateful for the city where the weather's always kind. i'm a veteran. i served in the air force from 1981 to 1985. i began my law enforcement career. i served for 27 years and retired here in san francisco. i immediately after retiring, i took a job in the private sector in corporate security and i very recently retired from that position. i have always had a passing interest in what's happening with the police department. in answer to supervisor chan's question about chief scott and the suspension of the m.l.u., i am concerned about that. i have to admit, i don't know enough about the chief's decision regardless. i think it's important that he and the district attorney's office continue to communicate i think that when he brings his issues forward and the other issues to the other side, it's heard that ultimately a consensus can be reached and the agreement can be reinstated. i have not regularly attended commission

we were a center for people with intellectual and development cal disabilities in san francisco san francisco. we also have a program for individuals that have acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury, and we also have one of the larger after school programs for children with special needs that serves the public school system. the sf carbon fund for us has been the launching pad for an entire program here at the pomeroy center. we received about $15,000. the money was really designed to help us improve our garden by buying plants and material and also some infrastructure like a drip system for plants. we have wine barrels that we repurposed to collect rain water. we actually had removed over 1,000 square feet of concrete so that we could expand the garden. this is where our participants, they come to learn about gardening. they learn about our work in the greenhouse. we have plants that we actually harvest, and eggs from our chickens that we take up and use in cooking classes so that our participants learn as much as anybody else where food comes from. we have two kitchens here at the

san francisco in general that we don't lose a grip of what san francisco's came from. you'll always recognize whenever you lock in the door. you'll see the same staff, the same bartender and have the same meal and that is great. that's important. ♪♪ >> the service that san francisco heritage offers to the legacy businesses is to help them with that application process, to make sure that they really recognize about them what it is that makes them so special here in san francisco. ♪♪ so we'll help them with that application process if, in fact, the board of supervisors does recognize them as a legacy business, then that does entitle them to certain financial benefits from the city of san francisco. but i say really, more importantly, it really brings them public recognition that this is a business in san francisco that has history and that is unique to san francisco. >> it started in june of 1953. ♪♪ and we make everything from scratch. everything. we started a you -- we started a off with 12 flavors and mango fruits from the philippines and then started trying them one

the small mom-and-pop businesses in downtown san francisco that make san francisco so unique desperately need folks to come back to work. my shop, my little sandwich shop, relies on catering and office business and office lunches, and unfortunately, we're still closed, so i'm so excited for this opportunity today, for the mayor to call businesses back to work because this gives us an opportunity to open our shop again and do what we love best. san francisco, we're all, under the leadership of mayor breed, have done such an amazing job of keeping everyone safe during such a hard time. let's continue to work together to bring back tourism to our city, to bring back conferences and businesses. let's bring back all the great things that we love about this city again, so thank you for this opportunity, and i look forward to what's coming our way. thank you so much. in san francisco. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> a new study coauthored by ucsf scientists shows police are now seizing almost 50 times more fentanyl pills in just 4 years ago. the study's authors are concerned that people may be exposed to fentanyl without even knowing it through counterfeit pills disguised as prescription opioids. that increases the risk of potentially fatal overdoses. california lawmakers are currently looking at several bills to try to curb the rise of deadly overdoses in the state, including harsher punishments for the distribution and possession of fentanyl. today is international transgender visibility day. it's an annual event to celebrate transgender and non-binary people around the world. one of the people who feel strongly about the occasion, the chair of the san francisco democratic party coffers. catherine heenan is here with more on that. catherine? yeah, this woman is a trailblazer. interesting person. >> her name is honey mahogany. she is the first black and transgender ch

i'm san francisco mayor london breed. and today i'm here to talk about laguna honda hospital and i'm joined by the director of department of public health dr. grant colfax as well as the director or laguna honda michael phillips and located in supervisor melgar and we also have a representative from our speaker of the house nancy pelosi's office, her director, dan bernal. we're here to talk specifically about what we know have been challenges at laguna honda hospital. for over 150 years, this facility has been a beacon of hope. it's been a place that has cared for those who could not care for themselves and, in fact, it has survived the 1906 earth quake and during the pandemic, there were those who thought laguna honda would be similar to many of these care facilities around the country that we would see covid spread rampedly and people die in significant numbers and although we lost six people at laguna honda due to covid, we worked really hard to ensure the safety of the patients there. the people who worked there, the
