arabile. >> reporter: frank, you are right. the germany recession story is the interesting one and is the big one to focus on. let's start off there. germany has entered recession with the final gdp data showing the second quarterly decline in a row in the first three months of the year. falling 0.3% in the first quarter. you see the inability for the market to shake off what was yesterday's negative trade and filtering through to today if you look at the dax, it is down .10%. we are up from the lows that we actually had in the market just two hours away from the open we had earlier today. interesting that the dax is down .20% following that inflation print yesterday. it does seem like the yields are getting bumped up significantly. the uk 10-year gilt is up today. on the sectors here. the story has been around the tech counters with the retail and media are down, but tech is managing to get higher more than 2% gain there. asml and asmi picking up positive numbers with 7%. that really bolstering trade on that front whether that

i'm frank holland. let's kickoff with the futures this morning, you see we are green across the board higher right now almost flat. something positive indicators for the start of the market day. this as investors continue to digest the federal reserve tenth interest rate hike and comments from chairman jay powell hinting the tightening cycle could near an end we have a slight decline with yields on the 10-year treasury at 3.36. going down from yesterday. a bigger move when it comes to the 2-year treasury moving down more at 3.87 a few days ago, that yield was above 4% energy and oil with wti falling below $70 a barrel you see it down $69.30 the international brent crude at $73.30 natural gas is flat. >>> time to get to the top story along with the fed and that is the state of the u.s. banking sector this morning, california's pacwest is in talks with certainly partners over the bank exploring optioning. pacwest has not experienced any out of the ordinary deposit flows in the last week and cash reserves

>> reporter: good morning, frank.we're seeing here is a doom loop for mid sized banks what i mean by that is the stock decline after the first republic deal and jpmorgan chase took over the bank and shareholders were wiped out that stock decline leads to a disclosure of looking at option which is interpreted by the market as a sign of weakness that leads to an actual slide of deposits with pacwest disclosed losing 10% of deposits from may 10th you have seen a concern go from theoretical to actual. a couple of weeks ago, nobody would have a conversation with pacwest and these are the people who cover the banks most closely in terms of risk here. that is the case now if you look at the quarterly filing, they said there is now increased risks about their future prospects in the business that's not something customers of the bank want to hear that is dire language coming from a bank. >> if you put money somewhere, you don't want to hear they will go out of business one thing i want to talk about is the short interest in r
