amy hollyfield is live at frank ogawa plaza. >> reporter: some police are moving behind me i'm curious to follow where they are headed. i can show you the plaza over there that you are used to seeing full of protesters for the last couple of weeks. now it is police that are over there you no longer see protesters, it is police. the health department will soon be moving in to clear out tents and the kitchen, everything in there they have to clear it out. police moved in about 4:30 this morning. we have a picture for you of the most confrontational situation we saw that was tear gas released. the question is who released it? we asked police why did you release tear gas on the protesters? they said we didn't, they did. i did see an officer gasping, he looked tan by -- he looked taken by surprise. however, the protesters tell us, why would we release it when we don't have masks on. that's crazy, we didn't do it. conflicting reports on that issue. that was the most violent moment we saw. several people were arrested. probably dozens between 8:00 and 9:00 they are hoping to have a press conf

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> across the bay in oakland tension has built up again with protesters retaking frank ogawa plaza. police removed them two days ago. demonstration last night forced bart to shutdown briefly. let's check in with katie. >> reporter: good morning. they are back. take a look behind us. we apologize if you can't read the sign they've asked us not to shine the bright lights on their encampment, just the one tent this morning. they are asking people to donate tents and sleeping bags. fewer than a dozen protesters here this morning. that was not the case last night. let's recap what went down. the tension began between the protesters themselves over the against that police put up around the grassy area of frank ogawa plaza. some protesters wanted to take it down others asked them not to, the fence did come down. they decided upon hearing there was going to be police presence at occupy san francisco, occupy oakland decided they were going to join the protest in downtown san francisco. police decided to close some of the bart stations at 12th and 19th street. some of the protest
