but i think we will find he has been dead for quite awhile. >> frank figliuzzi, stay with us. we are going to bring in now maine democratic representative shelley pingree. representative pingree, thank you very much for coming on the program this evening. your reaction to the news that robert card has been found dead? >> it's a great relief in maine. people have been on peanuts pins and needles. -- both in lewiston and then in the surrounding areas all the way into portland, maine, has been a very quiet place. this is going to give people a lot of relief. it will take away the fear. hunting season can open tomorrow, which was a big question for a lot of people about whether or not they could be in the woods. but most importantly the families of those who have just -- who have been murdered, we'll have a chance to grieve. people can gather. we can have vigils. there can be funerals. we know how important it is to be with each other in these times of grief. and here is a city that has been really suffering. and no one could get together because they were locked in their homes. s

also with us is frank figliuzzi, nbc's tom winter is with us as well, and casey jordan, a criminologist. let me start with you, frank. you and i were listening to that press conference here, what is the headline? what stood out to you? >> my takeaway, reading between the lines having given many law enforcement press conferences is that they don't have much to go on. we heard a lot of talk but very little substance. by that i mean i can glean from what they said that certain things may not be working for them. what am i talking about? technical forensics and cell phone identification. >> why do you think they don't have that? >> because they literally say we don't know where he is. we don't have a lead. we're checking all these areas. we're checking -- we're doing dives in the river. we're going to go arm in arm and do a line search through the woods. he may have ditched any device that he had on him. secondly, it would appear that heat seeking infrared technology that you use from the air seems not to be working because they're not focusing on a certain area where they see a heat signat

frank figliuzzi, former fbi assistant director for counter intelligence. rank, talk to us about what you heard in that press conference, what matters mattered most. >> what matters most is that we are finally getting communications from law enforcement. i think it has been a while, but it is understandable, because they are busy right now. but most of all this person of interest title is intriguing. it is also not only extremely cautious, legally. but it also may have to do, stephanie, with his individual's mental health background. that is to say, if he is monitoring the media, and he might be, and he hears he is the shooter, he is the subject, that may change his behavior. so, what we don't know is what's going on behind the scenes with his mental health professionals. if it is accurate that he has a history of mental illness, perhaps even being institutionalized recently, rest assured detectives are speaking with those mental health professionals right now and trying to glean everything they can about his behavior, what is likely next step is, and what m

joining me is frank figliuzzi, msnbc national security analyst and author of the fbi way, inside thebe speaking to you. i assume you listen to our last segment. speaking to this woman, she has two cousins, one of their husbands and young children, that are hostages in gaza right now. she, like so many other families, are begging in praying for their family members to be released safely. how in the world is that going to happen with this ground invasion? >> stephanie, as you know, this is without a doubt the most complex hostage scenario that i have seen in my career. certainly perhaps in our lifetimes. this is not going to be easy at all. there is some hope. your last guest in the last segment actually said something very hopeful. which is that the idea of told her her family members are alive and in gaza. that may seem something like a no-brainer, but that speaks to intelligence capability. at least for her family members. of the ability to at least know that some people are alive and perhaps even where they are. there is complexity after complexity here. some of the obvious things.
