joining me now, jake ward, and msnbc analyst, frank figliuzzi joins us.d this letter go viral to begin with, and how did it spread so fast? >> it seems, chris, that this 21-year-old letter came back to life thanks in part to a post on x from a journalist who essentially posted a compilation of a handful of people on tiktok who had been posting about this letter. at that time, there wasn't an enormous amount of traction. from there, huge traction began, and in just the four days between monday and thursday this month, we saw the searches for bin laden and references to him on x, increased by about 4,000%. we saw searches on you tube go up by about 400%, and across tiktok, millions of views have been racked up by a handful of videos. as you mentioned, tiktok has taken it down. all the major platforms have a pretty clear policy on not allowing content that glorifies terrorism, and this certainly falls dead smack in the middle of that. as people have begun posting reaction videos in some ways, condemning the original videos and also editing in snippets of the

i want to bring in frank figliuzzi. it's the day before thanksgiving, the israel-hamas war, we don't want to speculate about a motive, what law enforcement officials telling you? >> yes, we have more questions than answers right now. but there's enough here to actually have an intelligent discussion about this and most of it is coming from nbc news sources. sources are reporting that for now there appears not have been evidence of explosives in this vehicle, eyewitness accounts say the fire, the explosion happened after the vehicle crashed into the customs facility. why is that important? because it makes a little bit less likely that this was a vehicle borne ied, improvised explosive device that was designed to detonate in some kind of planned attack versus a car accident that caused a fire and then perhaps a gas tank explosion. that's where we're at right now, all of this could change as further forensics and examination is done, but i'll also rule out that as you said, the times we're living in, where seemingly days

. >> frank figliuzzi, tom winters lays out a series of questions, a series of possibilities. if you would for us, pull back the curtain on the work the fbi is doing right now to investigate. >> sure. i think it's a sign of the heightened threat environment we're in that you see this large-scale fbi response to this, and all the media coverage. and understandably so. so the question is, while they operate from the presumption that yes, this is terrorism because that's what the rules of the road say these days, then we start proving that it's not. or that it is. how do you do that? we've got evidence in front of us. we've got a vehicle to deal with. that vehicle, even though it's burned, has a vin number on it. and there may be recoverable identifications of the two deceased persons inside the car that will help quickly identify. same with the license plate. and all of the video coverage that is understandably around a border crossing, not to mention back on the american side where they may have stopped at a convenience store, been captured on some kind of over camera coverage.
