i'm frank mallicoat. it's 5:00 now. we begin with some developing news at a concord bart station. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran tells us how a teen accidentally set himself on fire. >> reporter: frank and michelle, we know that that young teen is now recovering at valley medical center in santa clara. take a look at this video that we have. we know that emergency crews had to airlift him to safety. bart police are telling us that late last night, just after 11:30 they were called to the concord bus station where they found the victim on fire trying to put it out himself. they say he was working on car and had gas on his clothes and police say he was in a car with another person when one of the two of them lit a cigarette. and it was that combination the vapor from the gas on the victim's clothes mixed with the lighter that caused him to catch on fire. police say he suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. we know the other person who was in the car with the victim left before police arrived here on the sce

i'm frank mallicoat. it's 5:00 on your tuesday. and we begin with some breaking news as you wake up. kpix 5's cate caugiran is in belmont, where police dogs are searching for a missing autistic teen. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are at ralston middle school. this is where the teen was last seen. we know that he has been missing for nearly 10 hours now and the first 24 according to police is the most crucial to finding someone who is reported missing. now, let's take a look at this photo. this is 16-year-old tyler edward simmons. he is a student at carlmont high school, was last seen monday night at ralston middle school by a custodian. his father says he was supposed to be at the belmont public lay bay area where he picks up tyler every afternoon. the family does live in fremont but tyler goes to school in belmont because they used to live here. now, things to know when looking for him, his parents say that the teenager is autistic, has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old and is somewhat antisocial. he was last seen

i'm frank mallicoat. we begin with breaking news. deadly accident impacting the commute. >> a huge delay right now especially southbound 280. it's because of this accident temporarily blocking all of the southbound lanes. so we still don't know how much longer those lanes are going to be blocked. a pedestrian was hit and killed on the freeway. the original crash happened in the northbound lanes where two lanes are blocked. that pedestrian then climbed over the center divide and was hit and killed in the southbound lanes. mobile 2 has been on scene and said the coroner has not arrived yet. it will take longer than 7:00 to open the freeway. the crash is now more than an hour old. use bart or 101 as an alternate. 101 looks good. this is a holiday week or we would see bigger backups than now. we are going to get a live report from one of those kcbs mobile units in our next report. an accident blocking ahe slow lane injury crash, no big delays westbound 24 at broadway. the volume of traffic is way down from a normal friday. here's a live

i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego.eloping as you wake up, kpix 5's anne makovec is live at golden gate park where a pair of dogs attacked two people sending one man to the hospital. anne? >> reporter: one of those dogs is on the loose likely somewhere here in golden gate park. that is what we just heard from a police officer who says other officers are stationed around looking for that pit bull named cleo. it all started here in this grove on 25th and lincoln in golden gate park. the other dog that was involved in this attack was shot and killed by police last night. the dogs were owned by a man who set up camp here and then left his friend alone with the dogs while he ran an errand. about 10:30 last night the dogs turned on that friend attacking him. the owner came back and he was bitten on the leg, as well. police arrived. >> they tried to bring animal control out to put a noose around the dogs. that has failed. so the police came in and basically like a firing line and so the dog just kept going further into the par

good afternoon, i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. still a lot more questions than answers right now about what went wrong at that apartment where the officer was killed. our cate caugiran joins us live from bart headquarters with some new information. cate. >> reporter: now, frank, michelle, there are still more questions even after that entire press conference, bart police and alameda county sheriffs wrapped up an hour ago at bar police headquarters. today there will be an autopsy. here's what happened in the moments before the sergeant was shot and killed. he was with four other detectives two uniformed bart officers and an alameda county deputy to conduct a probation search at john henry lee's dublin apartment trying to recover a stolen laptop and other items. officers knew that lee was in custody and not at home at the time. only sergeant smith and three other officers went inside. an hour into the search, alameda county sheriff's office says an officer fired a shot killing submit. chief rainey of bart police emphasized the offic

i'm frank mallicoat. oakland police have just released new evidence in the six-month-old murder case aya nakano was shot and killed after a mine for fender-bender and kpix 5's cate caugiran joins us live from where the shooting happened with more on that lead. >> reporter: the photo is a new tool that police and the public can use in trying to catch aya nakano's killer. it is grainy, oakland police say this is a 4-door midsized silver car with a couple of distinct features that may have some front end damage and in describing the car, police say the back window slants down over the back axles like a hatchback. at today's press conference the nakano's family and friends stood by a bench with his photo collectively the group helping to lays $100,000 with help from the city of emeryville and other donors. the money is a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the killing. in the location where he was shot 7 months ago, a mother made a plea to the public. >> please ask yours
