i'm frank mallicoat. it is nearly 5:30 on this friday.begin this half hour with some breaking news out of hayward. kpix 5's anne makovec is live at the scene of a deadly mobile home fire. she joins us with the latest. anne. >> reporter: i'm here on fuchsia court in hayward and firefighters have the area wronged off. they will be here for another hour securing the scene and that is when the investigation into what exactly happened will begin. let me show you some of the pictures we took earlier this morning. firefighters got the call at about 3 a.m. and when they got here, the mobile home was engulfed in flames. they knocked down the front door and found a man lying close to the entryway obviously deceased. the firefighters don't know yet if he died in the fire or before it. >> the fire investigators, his charge is to determine how the fire started. once we do that, then we'll turn it over to other authorities. >> reporter: and they will determine how that man died. firefighters still don't know what started this fire. they do say, though,

i'm frank mallicoat. breaking news. high-speed chase led to this fiery crash at fifth and harrison around 3:00 this morning. two people were killed in the crash. officers ran the plates found the car was stolen and it led to a chase. we'll have a live report from a crew on the scene in a few minutes. for more on how it's affecting traffic, here's elizabeth wenger. >> obviously very scary video that our news crews took a couple of hours ago and still a large police presence around fifth and harrison. the off- ramp at 5th street will be closed for hours. the chase started around northbound 880 near the 80 split. the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and so that's how the chase started and obviously ended there on city streets in san francisco. so far, traffic is still very light at 5:01. no big delays at the bay bridge toll plaza but while the off- ramp is closed, consider alternates especially later on in the morning commute. we'll continue to watch it. in the meantime we have to get you out the door weather-wise. here'

good afternoon, i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. the well known chinatown figure arrested in the leland yee corruption scandal was back in court asking to be released on bail. his lawyers tried to make a case for his reputation. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec reports from the federal building. >> reporter: no bail raymond "shrimp boy" chow will stay in custody for now. this really turned into a mini- trial on his character. we saw four of his friends and family members take the stand speaking about how good a person he is and how he is a reformed criminal and not a danger to society. also saying that in no way would he flee. he would show up for future court dates. that again was according to some of his neighbors and friends. this is video of "shrimp boy" from the past. no cameras were loud at today's federal bail hearing. chow is charged with money laundering and conspiracy to sell stolen liquor and cigarettes. the charges themselves are not violent. but as the judge pointed out, chow has a criminal past and ties to chinese gangs. >
