i'm frank mallicoat. it is nearly 5:30 on this friday.begin this half hour with some breaking news out of hayward. kpix 5's anne makovec is live at the scene of a deadly mobile home fire. she joins us with the latest. anne. >> reporter: i'm here on fuchsia court in hayward and firefighters have the area wronged off. they will be here for another hour securing the scene and that is when the investigation into what exactly happened will begin. let me show you some of the pictures we took earlier this morning. firefighters got the call at about 3 a.m. and when they got here, the mobile home was engulfed in flames. they knocked down the front door and found a man lying close to the entryway obviously deceased. the firefighters don't know yet if he died in the fire or before it. >> the fire investigators, his charge is to determine how the fire started. once we do that, then we'll turn it over to other authorities. >> reporter: and they will determine how that man died. firefighters still don't know what started this fire. they do say, though,

i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:00. and we begin with some breaking news out of hayward. person was killed in a mobile home fire. kpix 5's anne makovec just arrived at the scene and she has the latest. >> reporter: we know that one person has died in this mobile home park on fuchsia court here in hayward. a mobile home has been destroyed. firefighters trying to secure the crime scene. that's standard procedure when there is a fatal fire. firefighters got the call at about 3 a.m. they put it out in 25 minutes. but when they got inside, they did find the body of one person. now they are trying to locate the homeowner because right now they are saying they don't know if the person who died is in

i'm frank mallicoat. friday is here.arly 6:00. >>> and happening today, san francisco residents will have a chance to sound off on the city's latest plan for the tech shuttle buses. anne makovec is in san francisco to explain the very latest on that plan. >> reporter: people are pretty upset about this, frank. this is one of the stops in question. it is outside of san francisco city hall where there will be a public hearing at 10:00 this morning on the city's plan to share its bus stops with these controversial tech shuttles. the shuttles have been using muni stops freely and muni riders and drivers were complaining they were in the way so the city made plans to allow them at some 200 stops and charge them $1 each. it's an 18-month pilot program beginning august 1. so to make room, muni will expand some bus stops and that will eliminate precious parking spaces. >> we are trying to make sure that our transportation network can move more efficiently and only affecting less than .01% of all parking. >> reporter: he is sure

i'm frank mallicoat. breaking news. high-speed chase led to this fiery crash at fifth and harrison around 3:00 this morning. two people were killed in the crash. officers ran the plates found the car was stolen and it led to a chase. we'll have a live report from a crew on the scene in a few minutes. for more on how it's affecting traffic, here's elizabeth wenger. >> obviously very scary video that our news crews took a couple of hours ago and still a large police presence around fifth and harrison. the off- ramp at 5th street will be closed for hours. the chase started around northbound 880 near the 80 split. the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and so that's how the chase started and obviously ended there on city streets in san francisco. so far, traffic is still very light at 5:01. no big delays at the bay bridge toll plaza but while the off- ramp is closed, consider alternates especially later on in the morning commute. we'll continue to watch it. in the meantime we have to get you out the door weather-wise. here'

i'm frank mallicoat.ly 5:30 now. >> happening today in fremont, city leaders debate sending hundreds of thousands of dollars to put up cameras and license plate readers to catch out of town criminals. kiet do reports live from fremont. the police department wants these cameras in specific spots like where you're standing right now. >> reporter: right. we're here on fremont boulevard on 880 one of a dozen spots where fremont police want to put the cameras to catch crooks trying to flee the city. they will be at the city council meeting tonight asking the council for $300,000 to install a dozen of these cameras at all the main entrances and exits into fremont. if approved, it would be the largest deployment of police surveillance cameras in the bay area. in fremont in the last six months, 33 out of 46 convicted burglars came in from out of town. so, for example, police say if a witness happens to get a partial plate of a getaway car, they can go back and check the video, which might provide credible leads f

i'm frank mallicoat.now 6:30. >>> breaking news in san francisco, two people are dead after a high-speed chase that started in the east bay. kpix 5's anne makovec is there live and ann, this is a stolen car that officers were trying to chase down. >> reporter: that's right. you can see how it ended right here behind me. the burned-out shell of this car opted shoulder of the off- ramp from 80 westbound here in san francisco at 5th and harrison streets. several local streets were closed for a few hours. those have now been reopened. here's video taken earlier this morning when that car was engulfed in flames. two people who were in this car are dead. one was ejected when the car crashed. the other died in this fire. it started as a high-speed chase in oakland northbound 880. officers ran the car's plates and they say it was stolen. so they started chasing it near 880 in the 80 split near 7th street. >> they tried to stop the vehicle and it fled at the toll plaza. it took the 5th street off-ramp and hit the

i'm frank mallicoat. >> friday is here. i'm michelle griego. time now is 6:00. in with elizabeth for a look at the morning commute. >> thanks, guys. problems in napa and fairfield right now. first out to napa. within the last couple of minutes they finally reopened that interchange right there near northbound 29 and 221. but they still are doing traffic control in the area so expect some slight delays. it is still early. but just a heads up. they are out there right now kind of directing traffic but at least they have reopened those northbound 29 lanes. they weren't closed for very long. multi-vehicle crash with injuries. also in fairfield we have seen several accidents approaching travis boulevard. you can see the delays westbound 80. there's also some later running roadwork approaching the cordelia truck scales through the suisun valley so all of that combo of accidents and roadwork is really slowing down the commute in solano county. here's a live look at all the fog coming into san francisco. watch out for that. it is slightly more dangerous when you do have

i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. breaking news in the east bay. anne makovec is on the scene of a deadly fire in hair. anne? >> reporter: an elderly woman died in this house, two others made it out alive and the investigation is ongoing. as to what caused this fire. you can see the damage to the front door the fire and smoke was pouring out of that door when firefighters arrived here at about 1 a.m. you can see beyond that how much damage was done to this house. there was a husband and a wife who made it out alive after trying unsuccessfully to fight this fire with a broken fire extinguisher. it was the wife's aunt who died. she was in a back bedroom in a wheelchair and to rescue her, firefighters had to get through the fire first. >> it is a challenge because you have to get to them quickly because you know that the conditions in the room are not favorable, you know, for anybody to live in that type of condition. >> i walked down here and i looked at the officer and i said, did everybody get out? he said no, unfortu

i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. gianna has the morning commute. >> we have a traffic alert to report this morning. we have been keeping our eye on the situation northbound 101 right after peninsula. overturn vehicle and a second vehicle involved in this accident. injuries reported. chp has two left lanes shut down until further notice so causing a bit of a backup there. in fact, we are seeing delays of 13 to 15 extra minutes as you work your way on northbound 101. so in the meantime your best bet is to use northbound 280. cut across 92, head to 280 to avoid delays along 101. elsewhere, the bay bridge starting to stack up. metering lights are now on. we have reports of an accident two cars involved at treasure island. minor problem on the right shoulder but again may slow you down a bit this morning. and elsewhere south 101 at lakeville highway getting word of an accident. that accident in the same area yesterday. the left lane is blocked. chp on the scene a bit of a backup there, as well. and, of course, the altamon

i'm frank mallicoat. it's 6:00, wednesday, june 11. >>> let's check in with liz for a look at our morning commute. >> thanks, guys. we are getting a first report of a new accident now. it is coming up northbound 17. it sounds like it's approaching laurel road solo car crash. it is in the center divide and you can see speeds now averaging about 49 miles per hour but that may continue to slow as this morning commute gets under way. it's windy outside. lawrence will have the forecast coming up. but chp issued their own high wind advisory for the richmond/san rafael bridge. that's a live look at the toll plaza. tow crews are on the scene of the accident northbound 280 approaching alemany boulevard. actually past the alemany boulevard exits. there are injuries. there was a small oil spill with it. they hoped to clear it by 6:15. right now we are seeing minor delays. so once the tow crews get all the cars hooked up they can clear it but in the meantime, expect heavier traffic right now coming into san francisco

good afternoon, i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. the well known chinatown figure arrested in the leland yee corruption scandal was back in court asking to be released on bail. his lawyers tried to make a case for his reputation. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec reports from the federal building. >> reporter: no bail raymond "shrimp boy" chow will stay in custody for now. this really turned into a mini- trial on his character. we saw four of his friends and family members take the stand speaking about how good a person he is and how he is a reformed criminal and not a danger to society. also saying that in no way would he flee. he would show up for future court dates. that again was according to some of his neighbors and friends. this is video of "shrimp boy" from the past. no cameras were loud at today's federal bail hearing. chow is charged with money laundering and conspiracy to sell stolen liquor and cigarettes. the charges themselves are not violent. but as the judge pointed out, chow has a criminal past and ties to chinese gangs. >

i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time now 6:00. >>> let's check in with elizabeth for a look at the morning commute. >> thanks, guys. we have better news now. they were able to wrap up this pothole repair ahead of schedule. initially, they had thought it was going to be later. it was going to be closer to 8:00 they were going to continue to have that one lane blocked. but we just got word that all lanes are now back open. maybe they thought it was causing a big backup. so southbound 101 approaching san antonio road we are still seeing some really big delays by the novato dump coming out of sonoma county into marin county. but for right now, we should start to see some of those delays dissipate because they did just re-open that lane. maybe they will go back to continuing to fix it later. we'll continue to keep you posted. all right. here's a live look at our sensors westbound 580 from the altamont pass and 680. start time is up to about 25 minutes right now. out of tracy it looks okay. the bulk of the slow traffic is

i'm frank mallicoat. it is day 3 of that muni sickout. the headache for riders could continue through the end of the week. but talks set for saturday now could put the system back on track. anne makovec has the very latest now in san francisco. >> reporter: more muni trains are rolling today than yesterday and most are far less crowded. it was a tense morning for commuters not knowing what to expect. >> it's becoming very inconvenient. >> it affects a lot of people. >> reporter: about 160 operators called out six, muni at 70% capacity better than the 50% we saw yesterday. >> hopefully we'll get more improvement tomorrow. >> reporter: cable cars though were at a standstill all morning. the operators were needed to drive trains and buses leaving tourists disappointed. >> we just wanted to take the cable car. we don't have any cable car today. >> reporter: muni operators are upset about the pay and benefits being offered in the latest contract. it was compiled by an independent mediator. >> apparently they are the sixth highest paid transit
