. >>> well, last night on "the rachel maddow show" she asked frank rich if he thinks it's potentially damaging that so-called occupiers are being derided as anti-american radicals. >> i don't think it is potentially damaging but interestingly it's again what happened with the bonus army during the depression. there was a lot of theories they were communist, in fact, someone had the theory they were controlled by jewish movie producers at mgm, i love that idea, and secret service was sent in to infiltrate the army but they couldn't find communists or found a few but mainly found patriotic veterans out of work and desperate at a time, by the way, when, again, the highest income in equality until now. the polls have been remarkable on this because they keep going on. eric cantor called them mobs. bloomberg was critical then suddenly there was a "wall street journal"/nbc news poll showing that 37% approved. every poll since has gone up. "time" had a poll, 54% of americans 5 of proed the principles that the protesters are rallying behind. "national journal" high so it keeps building. >> do

i remember talking to frank rich a year ago. and frank saying this is -- this is the issue.s is a big threat to america's economic well being in the future. and boy, mike, a year later, a lot of people are talking about what frank was talking about last year. >> yeah, and still as was a year ago, two years ago, the most important word in the english language is spelled j-o-b. that's the way to address income inequality. jobs and education. we spent too little on education in terms of spending it the proper way, training, and everything like that. jobs and education. that's how you handle that. it is the rich getting richer because of exotic financial instruments on wall street. tax breaks, 25 years of certain changes in our tax code, but there's a second contributing factor, and that is the hollowing out of the middle class. and they're not just hollowing out because china and india's taking all of our jobs, hollowing out for historic reasons. and that makes this battle just a heck of a lot harder for a politician to get a grasp on. >> what makes it a challenge now are there

ron paul upped them all and said he we shouldn't just repeal don frank but sarbanes-oxley. taxes on the rich, rolling that back, and taking hold in the republican primary that's going to offer a pretty easy target for axelrod and the democrats in 2012. and again, i think sort of piggybacking on the occupy wall street gives that argument, that message an authentic grass roots side that it wouldn't have that was just coming from the white house. >> i think it's not just the politicians who are talking about it. it'ses forring the wall street titans to come in and issue statements. they're doing that on both sides, although mostly pro-wall street. what are the chances any of this is going to force them to change policies that, in fact, have widened the gap between the rich and the poor? >> they changed policies based on the rolls in washington and dictates of the market. i wouldn't look for a lot of personal behavior to change it. i don't think it's strong enough on wall street to do it one way or the other even if folks wanted to. as you say, people have an interesting take on this. i intervie

frank. he is also the author of the high beta rich. robert, thanks for being with us. looking at some of the poll numbers no doubt as we have been watching the race for 2012. let's show of that right here. the poll found 43% of americans agree with occupy wall street at the moment. and it seems to be growing. compared to the 27% who disagree. as you can see on the screen right now. the movement has shown no political bent at the moment. does it help, though, democrats? >> well i think whatever side you take in the class war, and we do have a class war right now, the facts are the facts. and the facts are these. the incomes for the top 1% have nearly tripled over the past 30 years. the top 1% of earners now own more than 20% of the income. they also control more than 1/3 of this country's wealth. whatever party you belong to, it is clear this is an economy that benefits those at the top, and is largely left behind the other 99%. you can't argue with that. >> also part of this, robert to follow along this new cbs/"new york times" poll, it also says that 69% of respondent
