poignant reminder of the skill of human suffering in the year 19 32 when frank and roosevelt was running for president. in 1932 democratic convention was held in chicago, and when roosevelt was nominated, he received word of the nomination in albany, and then he did something really unprecedented and quite dramatic. he actually threw out to the convention to accept the nomination in person. when americannt, presidential candidates received a nomination of their party, they would receive the delegation formally at their home, or in a political site, but they did not go to the convention, and they did not deliver a speech at the convention. well, roosevelt broke with that tradition and a dramatic way. he is delivering his acceptance speech at the convention, and an electrifying moment and political history. it is this speech were he first uses the term, a new deal. >> i pledge myself to a new deal for the american people. >> that expression, the new deal, becomes obvious a very highly associated with his entire presidency, but it is premiered at this moment when he delivers his acceptance

there were clinical notes, roosevelt's cardiologist, new york specialist named howard bruen eventually published a medical journal 25 years after his patient died. with a letter, frank leahy, a noted surgeon who was a consultant on the roosevelt's condition after prosperity, a letter dictated a day before fdr finally declared for a fourth term and found he wouldn't be able to survive it. much later after prolonged court battle that went to the highest court in massachusetts, the fool leahy letter came into the public domain, 2007. i think that is hardly mentioned in previous biographies because scholars doubted its authenticity. i went into that hoping to make some stunning discovery. i didn't make a stunning discovery but convinced myself it is undoubtedly authentic. leahy went down to washington the weekend before he dictated that letter, for one night just overnight, saw ross mcintyre, roosevelt's physician, hoped to see roosevelt but roosevelt was with lucy rutherford. and didn't have time for him. mcintyre clearly told him there would be an announcement the following monday or tuesday and he went back and dictated his letter to posterity saying this was a mista
