we have a lot of discussion, senator franken and others have introduced bills in the united states senate to address precisely the questions that you are asking, governor, and we have supported them and we continue to look forward -- as a prosecutor i always want more tools. you know, i see a problem out there and i want to have the tools to fix it. we passed a hate crimes law in 2009 that enables us to work with local law enforcement in much more effective ways to combat hate crimes including but not limited to lgbt motivated violence. so we'd love to have more tools. but, you know, with the tools that we currently have, we're doing as much as we can and i think ruslyn's point about the uptick in the number of complaints we're both receiving, i'm not sure that necessarily reflects, as ruslyn correctly pointed out, that there's an uptick in violence. the doctrine of futility often resulted in less complaints being seen. i think there's a commitment in the federal level to doing our level best on these issues. >> tom, you talk about tools. ruslyn, what kind of tools, part of this is raisin

franken how was a different? >> it is somewhat similar but applies only to banks which is somewhat different from dodd/frank and in the case of systemically important institutions it could be any. there are similarities and differences but with basil they try to micromanage the assets that banks hold in we should have learned the lessons what happened in the financial crisis that has been completely ignored that banks were herded into owning not all the mortgages, but also mortgage-backed securities. overdoing the same thing at the same time with the basal regulation. that was a huge mistake. we paid for it. net asset mortgages declined in value, mortgage-backed securities declined and all banks look weak at the same time especially with mark to market accounting. it is a big mistake through basal womack one and womack to and during the same thing now with basal iii. so the average between equity with any asset they want to carry and that means they will look different that means is they're not in trouble at the

al franken was able to real turn the corner on that thing. >> but he was, but it's not often that youll has roughly $7 million in the war chest down there, four counties in kentucky turned out to support president obama during the last election. if she is going to win in kentucky, how would she go about doing it? >> well, first of all, the judd candidacy is a great gift to journalism so she should be happy. >> believe you me, we've been on it all day. >> we should be encouraging her, no matter what. >> and all year, we really get a gift like this. >> it's a terrific thing to have. it's going to be very difficult for her, i think. the last time around it was said that mcconnell was vulnerable, and it turned out he wasn't terribly much, so a lot will depend on how things are looking next year, but i think this is one of those things that has a lot more appeal to those of us who talk about it than your average voter there in kentucky. now, mcconnell is no brilliant campaigner, and if indeed -- it's kind of awful to sit through his speeches on the senate floor, but he does know kentucky p

it is one thing for al franken to win in minnesota as we saw.lizabeth warren to win in massachusetts in 2012. it would be very difficult for ashley judd to have won in kentucky, particularly in an offyear election like 2014. >> it wasn't very long ago, bill clinton was in town and he was asked who he would endorse. and he said it was too early to say. he was specifically asked about ashley judd. we know he may have some influence in this state eventually when a democrat is selected. >> reporter: that's right. and he would be the one that any democrat would probably want to campaign with. this is not a pro obama state even among democrats. in the democratic primary in 2012. 42% of democrats voted for someone else other than president obama. so bill clinton would need to be the key person campaigning. the key endorser. whether it is president obama, bill clinton, kentucky remains a very tough state for democrats. particularly in races like a senate contest. >> thank you very much. we'll see you tomorrow. >> thanks. >>> coming up, houses in washing

arnold schwarzenegger, ronald reagan, people like that jumping in, al franken from the media world where well known. name i.d. how powerful is just the fact everybody will know who ashley judd is? >> huge, massive. ed franklin was stuart smalley before he was a u.s. senator. at the beginning stages that i don't think was taken very seriously as far as a candidacy. ashley judd is not only a very well-known hollywood actress, beautiful and well spoken, she's been a very outspoken for women's rights. she's questioned male patriarchy, questioned traditional gender norms and dean so with an amount of fluency and passion that is pretty remarkable. i would say, you know, mcconnell's people and the republicans at large in the state of kentucky want to make this a cultural war about a hollywood liberal but also want to take on the issue of traditional gender norms and be defenders of traditional gender norms. as we know, chris, the republican party does not tend to do well when they take on the issues of women's health, gender equality in this country. >> let's take at the latest ppp poll. senato
