our frankfurt stock exchange correspondent has this reaction from the trading floor. >> mario draghi sounds very different from the u.s. central bank, and that is intentional. the fed wants to gradually withdraw from crisis mode. it wants to stop buying bonds as soon as the economy permits. not sooner, but as soon as it is possible, it wants to dial back. not so with the ecb. mario draghi says low interest rates well into the next year, and that is to help the economy here, to help countries in crisis. good news for equities because that aids the financing of firms, and because investors carry a lot of the money that does not yield very well low- paying investment opportunities into the equity markets. for the euro, low interest rates are not that good, so the euro went down on this news. >> here are the numbers for you now -- germany's dax ended the trading day well up in positive territory by more than one .5%. the euro stoxx 50 also up by almost 1.5%. across the atlantic, markets were off to the races this morning after the federal reserve vowed to maintain its stimulus program. t

on tuesday, frankfurt was hit hard by thunderstorms and strong winds. trees have fallen on streets and these big trucks were overturned by winds. scaffolding was torn off buildings. and you can see this cloud formation of rain clouds covering much of the central regions. looks like it is sagging all the way into southern france and this is pretty active. we have numerous reports of hails and damaging winds of 155 kilometers an hour. in germany we have a report of funnel clouds. this is likely to continue into our thursday. back behind we have an atlantic system moving into the british isles. across much of the eastern regions we have the heat dome that is persistent and it is likely to prevail into the later half of the week. but with that cold front passing through things will be dramatically different. friday, 37 degrees for the high in budapest. down to 27 degrees on saturday. that's a huge jump. vienna at 31 for your friday down to 20 degrees. 11 degrees difference. that's going to be difficult for the bodies to cope with. take precautions for this

and cisco shares down in frankfurt, off by almost 9%. and it did fall some 10% in after hours trade. and as i said, lots of earnings out of switzerland this morning. wholesome reported flat profit for the second quarter falling shy of forecasts for 429 million swiss franks. the cement giant said weakness in the india, canada and mexico markets weighed on the bottom line. we see wholesome shares despite that up by around .1%. zurich insurance big underperformer off by 3.3%. zurich insurance posted a steeper than expected 27% drop in second quarter net profit. the group did take a hit from tornado claims in the u.s. and flooding in europe. this is obviously something that also impacted some of the other insurers. and at first on cnbc interview earlier on, the group's ceo said that low interest rates also weighed on the group's investment. >> continued low interest rates are also impacting our result. investment income was down 8% compared to the prior quarter, which is a significant drop on the investment income, of course. >> dan scott he
