robert frank is just to simplify things i would say is a liberal economist, he writes a column for "the new york times," teaches at cornell and he's done this, this is the second book he has done for us and it's a collection of pieces about how to think about the current crisis through economic terms. he helps people come up with a vocabulary to help understand all of the garbage that you hear in the news to sort through. he has a lot of prescriptive solutions as well. then on the other side you have tom sowell, a conservative economist at the hoover institution in california. very widely respected. both of these men are up respected and we approached professor sowell and said we would like you to read a book what has happened on the economy and he said without a doubt i need to write about the housing crisis because in his opinion the housing crisis is what is precipitated the entire economic boom and bust. >> so we have some trouble, we have the economy and in this book by chris mooney at of science in america. you want to tell about that? >> he is a science journalist and wrote a boo

frank: i yield to the the gentleman from from new york. mr. mcmahon: i rise chairman -- to thank chairman waxman for this piece of legislation, which makes clear that the section of this bill that relate to energy commidity derivatives should be superseeded by congressional financial regulatory reform if it comes forward. the manager's amendment would add section 358 that renders null and void the section of the clean energy and securities act dealing with commidity derivatives and energy regulations that the congress adopts. i and many of my colleagues and the new democrat coalition have expressed concern about many of the provisions included in subtitle bae in this bill. this bill is not to set regulations. in coordination with the financial services task force, i will take the best ideas of the president, the congress to forge

chairman frank again deserves credit because even though the majority leader won't bring this bill to the floor so we could figure it out with documents, chairman frank said to the treasury, look, just sit down with the people that are interested in finding out the truth here and hand things over. so we had some conversations and sadly i have to report to the house, madam speaker, we have had a setback. while i wanted very much to come and be able to solve this game so we could get on to something else, but there was a meeting, a conversation had on june 3 between representatives of the financial services committee and a fellow by the name of munchus who is the deputy assistant secretary for legislative affairs. he indicated that this meeting where we were talking about and i was promised a letter talking about who did this, he indicated in that conversation the treasury thought that meeting was to talk about policy options and had nothing to do with this particular issue. and then he then stated that if the true goal of the meeting was to reconstruct conversations between treasury an

it's the spanish soldier getting killed, and frank capa took it. he went in on d-day with the first wave at the toughest part of omaha beach, and capa shot, i think it's eight rolls of film, and then holding his camera high over his head he went running back out to an lct. there are a couple of his pictures. i interviewed a guy who was in the lct who helped capa back over the side. they took him out to an lst, and from there he got to england toward dark on d-day. he got on the train in portsmouth and ran up to london, got to the development studio. the kid doing the developing was so anxious to see these pictures that he overheated them, and the emulsion melted down and they all came out blurry. only eight of them came out. the kid ruined all the others, and capa was just furious because he's shot clean. but it turned out that that blur to these pictures suited perfectly omaha beach, so that's undoubtedly the most famous picture from the invasion. c-span: when you go in the book stores today -- i just happened to walk by a book store this afternoo
