how do you think, fred, the retail investors is feeling right now? >> based on all of our metrics, the retail investors is bullish and optimistic here. whether, regardless what indicator we look at. we do surveys, look at log-ins. accounts traded, all significantly up year over year. on top of that, what they're actually doing, measured by investor movement indirks, the most bullish in the four years since we've been measuring this. bullish and going through a gyration now but small. only 2% or 3%. >> you make an excellent point how we did so well last year. it's easy to feel bullish when sitting on that high. however, we had duncan ceo on cnbc last week saying, tom, he thinks the retail investor largely missed the boat. yes, a big gain last year but they weren't participates. do you agree a lot have missed the boat? >> i don't think so. our advisers are more optimistic than in the last five years and haven't seen shifts in the asset allocations. bullish on equities. that's skating. >> -- exciting. >> of the advisers, this isn't declines, the adviser

hello, fred. >> reporter: hi, natalie.his place is feeling more and more like the south pole. the temperatures are really plummeting here. the winds as you said are picking up and the snow is piling up. i want to show you how high it's actually gotten. it's probably gotten over 7 1/2, maybe 8 inches. the snow is really powdery. this is one of the things that's making it so difficult for the road cruise here. if you look around some of the cars you can see how the snowdrifts are starting to engulf these cars. a lot of these people will have to do a lot of shoveling in the morning. keep in mind it will keep snowing another seven or eight hours as hard as it is now if not even worse. so there is going to be a lot more snow piling up. it's very bad here in boston, actually even worse on the massachusetts coast where in some places about 18 inches of snow have already fallen. some places are expecting up to two feet of snow there. so certainly road crews around massachusetts are going to be working overtime tonight. the same is

that's where fred joins us with the latest.ds and snow coming down. you can see the snow flakes that are fine. if you look at the snow on the ground, as you can see it's pretty fine and dusty. what happens is it leads to these snow drifts. as you can see the road behind me is full of snow and that's because it keeps drifting on to this road, even though snowplows keep coming through. the state of massachusetts has more than 3,000 plows in the state. the city of boston alone has some 500 snowplows on the roads trying to keep them free of snow. that's proving to be difficult. the mayor of boston told people to stay off the roads with their cars and let the road crews do their work overnight. clearly, that's not going to be enough because the weather is so bad. in cape cod the weather is similar to here and there is more snow falling and more wind and the difference between there and here, here it comes in phases. here there are phases where the wind dies down and picks up again. there there is snow and wind and there are areas ur

fred let's start with jp morgan. it's been going through a tough time. it had all those legal problems, settlements, writeoffs. as you look ahead to 2014, are things going to be better? and what does it mean for the bank and the stock? >> look, i think on jp morgan things are going to get a little bit better. but it's still a tough road for them ahead. i think we have to look at the results today and say yes, they beat but remember after the third quarter earnings estimates have come down for the company. so i think it was a solid quarter. i think overall, though, revenue environment for these big banks is still pretty challenging. >> but you are recommending jp morgan. it is one of the stocks on your buy list. if someone puts in fresh money at $57 a share how will they do this year? >> just fine. we don't think it's necessarily the biggest grower in terms of stock price across our universe but it should be solid. what's happening is that the dark cloud that's been over jp morgan for about a year and a half now is beginning to break up. it's not going to

and with that article in "the wall street journal," fred, what can we do about this?re are the threats coming from? do we know? >> well, a real threat right now is that the power grid is being improved by computers and linking it to the internet. this has created vulnerabilities that congressional committees have determined that we don't fully understand. and i think steps are being taken to improve the power grid to some extent. but there's been enormous criticism by congress that very little has been done to shield the power grid from the effects of electromagnetic pulse from, for example, a solar flare, that could do enormous damage -- >> what does that mean, solar flare? >> solar flares can kick off an electromagnetic pulse. this is a phenomenon where a very strong magnetic wave can fry electronics and -- >> where does it come from? you're talking about a solar -- from the sun? >> a solar flare can come from the sun or it can be created artificially with a small nuclear device. >> right. >> there are concerns that north korea and iran are pursuing this capability.
