e fred pleitgen is joining us live from vienna, and the press secretary has been briefing the foreignand the represe representative from russia. what are they saying? >> well, it is very interesting, wolf, because the talks in e vienna went longer than anybody thought they would. they were scheduled for four and a half hours and they went on for eight hours. clearly emotional times in the room, and for the first time the iranians, a part of the discussions to try to the end the violence in syria, and of course, the saudis are there as well, and two parties that don't agree on any way forward, and right now, secretary of state kerry is briefing the media with sergey lavrov and basically what he said is that there was a lot of agreement on a lot of issues regarding the syrian crisis. he said that all parties agree that syria should remain unified and secular state. all parties agree, some sort of way to end the violence. he says that all parties have agreed to ask the u.n. to get all of the par tus together to get some nationwide cease-fire going in syria, and however, wolf, the big stu

i want to bring in correspondent frederik pleitgen. fredu tell us about the arrest of the man and if it gets any air time at all at the meeting today. >> reporter: christine, it has gotten some air time here at the meeting. not the one that takes place today, but the one that took place yesterday. a one-on-one meeting with secretary of state kerry and iranian foreign minister zaraif. the state department has said they did raise the issue of americans being detained in iran. we are now at four americans who remain in iranian detention. mr. namazi is the most recent, but you also have jason rezaian. the washington post reporter who has been in detention for 450 days and convicted of espionage charges. we know little about namazi's case and how he was detained. we know it happened two weeks ago. we hear his passport was taken away from him. before that happened, we have to keep in mind and we have seen this from the rezaian case. the authorities are not transparent as to what the charges are and how long he may remain in detention or if he has

let's get right to fred pleitgen in london with the breaking details. >> reporter: all this news is tricklingthe past two days when iranian state broadcasters started saying they had information that jason rezaian, there had been a verdict and today the news that he had indeed been found guilty. we don't know very much on top of that, ma lichaela. there's been very little information coming out of the court. we don't know whether or not there's been a sentence or what that sentence could be. there's been talk of 10 to 20 years for the crimes that jason rezaian has been convicted of by this revolutionary court which by the way has little in the way of transparency. "the washington post" came out with a statement earlier today where its chief editor, martin barron says, quote, the only thing that has ever been clear about this case is jason's innocence. any fair and just review would quickly overturn this unfounded verdict. one of the things that the iranians have said is that there is a 20-day appeals process when this verdict can be appealed. we don't know whether or not jason has beeny of in
