attacked by a mother bear seen in this photo in the driveway of her daughter's home in frederick. people who live in this rural neighborhood know not to come between her bear and cubs. . it was 9:30 at night. >> the bear was there. had to do a search. >> mark says his t 63-year-old karen osbourne, didn't know what she was walking into. >> cub ran in the tree and the grandmother got between the bear and the cub and broke her arm and scratched her up really bad. >> then i u heard a cub up in the tree. >> the bear family is known to people who live in the iron gate neighborhood. >> we just like our wildlife. backyard. the mother bear had an injured shoulder, possibly hit by a car at some point. she was tagged by the department of natural resources and had a tracking device. she could be protective of her cubs. >> when i got a little close, she made a mock charge and i backed off and everything was okay. >> using special equipment, experts with dnr worked through the night to locate the bear and this morning she was found and killed. and free to roam. >> we handled one of the cubs. it

michelle: we are hearing for the first time from the frederick woman who survived a bear attack. as kevin lewis reports, she was able to celebrate thanksgiving with loved ones and she has a lot to be think all for. that it was not my grandchildren walking down that driveway that night. kevin: she recalled maryland's first recorded bear attack. >> i heard this a norm is growling and i turned to look. the bear grabbed me by my face. she threw me to the ground. kevin: the protective mother bear, about to let pounds, snapped her arm and pelvis, crushed many teeth, and left a number of puncher wounds. >> she put her paul on my back and pinned me to the ground. there was no way i was going anywhere. kevin: between attacks, osborne called 911 on her cell phone, certain she was about to die. dnr officers attempted to track the bear, but opted to kill it, a decision that osborne supports. >> it was a perfect storm, i think, because of her and her cubs that made this happen. understandably emotional this weekend. >> i think i'm very lucky. the amount of time that she bit me and mauled me,

this school bus was traveling eased on frederick avenue in baltimore. it slammed into the back of this ford mustang, but it does not stop, it keeps going. it hit the concrete piling several hundred yards down. like a pinball, it bounces and continues across the street oncoming traffic. that is when it hit the mta bus, killing six people instantly. five people were on the mta bus, and the driver of the school bus was killed. no students were on the bus at the time, but there was a school bus aid among the injured. that person played a crucial role. in total, 10 people where taken to the hospital, their injuries critical. as of the 11:00 hour, rescuers had not made it all the way through that city bus, leaving the possibilities that there are still more victims inside. >> it literally looks like a bomb exploded in the bus. it is catastrophic damage. this was a major incident, and some seasoned individuals have said they he sam: the big question is, why the school bus did not stop. the ntsb has joined the investigation and will assist the baltimore city po

kevin lewis is live in frederick county. this is a scary as it gets. 63-year-old karen osborne was walking down the driveway with her dog when she got in between a mother bear and three cubs. this happened at 9:00 last night. it was pitch black dark out here. that reported 200-pound bear thrashed miss osborne onto the pavement here. at one point she managed to pick up her cell phone that was in her pocket and dial 911. police on the scene in 15 minutes. the d.n.r. set up overnight. when that didn't work, officers opted to shoot and euthanize the mother bear. it also used a nonlethal tranquilizer dart on one of her three cubs pictured here. they were relocated to a more rural area. but get back to her 911 call. here is how the terrifying conversation started. >> frederick county, 911. what is the address of the emergency? >> what attacked you? >> bear. he is still here. please help me. please come now. please come now. sent someone now. he has broken my arms and my legs. i can't move. i'm bleeding. i'm going to die. please hu
